INDEPENDENT CONSERVATIVE VOICE OF
UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA

Tuesday, Sept. 18th, 75 World War II veterans left Greenville-Spartanburg Airport on a flight to Washington, DC. Sixty guardians, doctors, nurses, and support staff accompanied the veterans.

Three buses took the group from Reagan National Airport to the WWII War Memorial. As they were boarding the buses, it started to rain. Instead of going to visit the Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Memorials and the Marine Memorial, the staff decided to go to the Naval Museum.

After leaving the Museum they took a bus trip around Washington, DC, but did not stop. But the buses did go to Arlington National Cemetery, and everyone stayed on the bus because it was still raining.

Traveling this time with Honor Flight will be Cadet Gracyn Moore, a Belton–Honea Path High School junior, who recently raised over ten thousand dollars for Honor Flight Upstate. She will serve as an honorary guardian on the flight for a WWII veteran.

Also serving as a guardian, was Gold Star Mother, Ann Hampton from Easley, SC. Ann is the mother of Captain Kimberly Hampton, KIA, January 2, 2004. Also assisting with Honor Flight Upstate was Debbie Whitsitt, mother of Army Specialist Geoffrey Whitsitt, KIA, January 13, 2010.

Time has never been shorter for us to say “thank you” to our WWII veterans. Forty-five WWII veterans will remain on the wait list for a flight in the spring of 2013. Funding is still needed to make that trip possible. 100% of donations go directly to costs associated with taking a veteran on this experience of a lifetime. For more information on how to get involved, make a donation or to apply as a guardian or WWII veteran, visit www.honorflightupstatesc.com.

Note: Honor Flight Upstate South Carolina is now accepting applications from Korean War veterans for a future flight in their honor.
