Thomas & Hutton Engineering Co. won the top award, the “Palmetto Award” for its Horry County Schools Think Energy Positive project. The company also won another Engineering Excellence Award for its South Carolina’s Framework for Freight, from Cross, SC to Ridgeville, SC.
The 15 award winning entries were submitted by 11 engineering firms. Another special award was bestowed on GWA, Inc. This firm won an Engineering Excellence Award and the Small Firm Award. The Small Firm Award goes to the highest scoring small firm, and small firm is defined as 30 or fewer employees. GWA’s entry was “House of Raeford-Wallace, Teachey, NC.
The top six scoring entries were also American Council of Engineer Companies Finalists. These projects were eligible to be entered in the national Engineering Excellence Award competition which is held in Washington, DC, and winners will be announced in May.
The following firms’ projects are eligible for national competition: Thomas & Hutton, Co.; Mead & Hunt, Inc.; Michael Baker International; Civil Engineering Consulting Services, Inc. and TranSystems Corporation. Both of Thomas & Hutton’s projects were ACEC National Finalists.
