U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley Receives Christian Statesman Honor: 'Faith is what Holds this Country Together'

WASHINGTON -- Prominent U.S. Senator Josh Hawley, R-Mo., is joining the ranks of standout elected officials to receive the Distinguished Christian Statesman Award. While accepting the honor at the Museum of the Bible, Sen. Hawley pointed to faith as a unifying force in a nation that's more divided than ever.

Trump Survives Second Assassination Attempt

As of Sunday evening, former President Donald Trump has survived two assassination attempts. According to the FBI’s Miami field office and the local sheriff’s office, Trump was playing golf in West Palm Beach, Florida, when a gunman poked a rifle through the golf course fence, about 400 yards away from the former president. Secret Service opened fire before the would-be assassin, later identified as Ryan Routh, could manage a shot. Routh is reported to have dropped his gun and fled the scene. He was arrested later by the nearby Martin County Sheriff’s office.
Regarding Routh’s arrest, Martin County Sheriff William Snyder reported, “He never asked, ‘What is this about?’ Obviously, law enforcement with long rifles, blue lights, a lot going on. He never questioned it.”

FBI: 2nd Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump’s Life Thwarted, Gunman Arrested

U.S. Secret Service agents shot at and later arrested a man with an AK-47 rifle near Donald Trump’s West Palm Beach, Fla., golf club Sunday afternoon while Trump was on the course. The FBI said it is investigating the incident as an attempted assassination of the former president, the second in two months.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said at a news conference that the Secret Service alerted local authorities that shots were fired about 1:30 p.m. Sunday. A Secret Service agent who was monitoring the course a hole ahead of Trump noticed a man with a rifle pointing the barrel through a chain-link fence near shrubbery that surrounds the course, Bradshaw said. The agent fired on the alleged gunman, who was approximately 300 to 500 yards away from the former president. Trump, the Republican nominee for president, was rushed back to the clubhouse in a golf cart and was unharmed.
