Gov. Tim Walz Raised Taxes as Most Governors Cut Them
- Details
- By Jared Walczak - Tax Foundation

Most states have cut taxes at least once since 2021, with a renewed emphasis on tax competition taking hold in red and blue states alike. Twenty-eight states have cut individual income tax rates, fifteen states have cut corporate income tax rates, and other states have cut sales tax rates or focused on property tax relief. Under Gov. Tim Walz (DFL), Minnesota has been an outlier, one of the few states to raise taxes in recent years—despite the state posting large surpluses.
With her selection of Minnesota Gov. Walz as her running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris has chosen from a pool of prospective candidates—sitting governors—that seems obvious but has not historically been well-represented in the second slot on presidential tickets. Former President Donald Trump’s selection of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and Sen. John McCain’s choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin may suggest that governors are gaining ground as vice presidential nominees, but before that, stretching back a century, the only others are Spiro T. Agnew, Earl Warren, and John W. Bricker.

Biden’s Beef with the Supreme Court

Joe Biden’s time in the White House is almost up, but that hasn’t stopped him from pushing his usual far-left agenda. The Washington Post published an opinion piece by President Biden at the end of July in which he calls for radical changes to the Supreme Court. While in it he doesn’t call for court packing, the plan is a political attack on the Judicial branch in response to several “dangerous and extreme decisions that overturn settled legal precedents — including Roe v. Wade.” In other words, when the left does not get what it wants, it resolves to destroy the institution.
A review of Jenna McCarthy's new book: YANKEE DOODLE SOUP

I first became aware of Jenna McCarthy a few months ago, as she was writing in support of FLCCCA (Front Line Covid Critical Care Alliance), a great group of dedicated physicians and professional folks that I support--physicians that tell the TRUTH about the sinister and very dangerous Covid-19 Non-Vaccine!. Jenna is affiliated with them, and I wrote a letter to her congratulating her on her current article -
Stock Market Crashes in ‘Harris Trade,’ Says Analyst
- Details
- By Joshua Arnold - The Washington Stand

Global stock markets continued their Friday stumble with a Monday tumble, as all three major U.S. indices fell by two percent or more. The Dow Jones index, which fell 600 points on Friday, lost an additional 900 points on Monday. The Nasdaq lost 900 points over the two days, while S&P lost 250 points; meanwhile global stock markets also crashed, led by Japan’s Nikkei 225, which lost 12%.
Some analysts attributed the stock market crash to July’s lackluster jobs report, also released on Friday. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the U.S. economy added only 114,000 “nonfarm payroll” jobs in July, the second fewest for any month in the past two years, behind April 2024.
Who Do Our Elected Officials Actually Represent?

I’ve been told if I took the red pill, I would be able to see reality – the truth of what is really going on around us. Well, I just happened to have a red pill and I took it. Suddenly there was a bright light almost blinding my eyes. Then, like traveling through time, I was rushing forward, I grew dizzy, and then, as my eyes cleared and I could stand in a steady manner, everything became crystal clear!
I could see that the American people, and their every action, are being ruled, regulated, restricted, licensed, registered, directed, checked, inspected, measured, numbered, counted, rated, stamped, censured, authorized, admonished, refused, prevented, drilled, indoctrinated, monopolized, extorted, robbed, hoaxed, fined, harassed, disarmed, dishonored, fleeced, exploited, assessed, and taxed to the point of suffocation and desperation.
Hold Your Congressmen Accountable to the Constitution

The Latest from the Freedom Index Tool

Do you know how your U.S. representative and senators voted on constitutionally important bills this year?
Learn how they voted by reading the third “Freedom Index” for the 118th Congress, which was published in the July 29, 2024 issue of The New American magazine. Also, please print and distribute our Congressional Scorecards, which are an easy way to inform others about how your congressmen are voting.
We live at a time when our federal government routinely usurps powers not granted to it by the Constitution. This is leading to an increasingly out-of-control Big Government that routinely infringes on our basic rights (property rights, privacy rights, religious liberties, right to bear arms, etc.). These infringements have grown worse with the Covid-19 overreach, climate-change tyranny, and Great Reset implementation that are betraying the very foundation of our Republic.
