Greenville GOP Women Hear from Four Candidates

The Greenville County Republican Women heard from the following candidates at their April 22 meeting: Curtis Loftis, candidate for South Carolina Treasurer; Nathan Earle, candidate for SC House Seat 17; state Sen. David Thomas, candidate for the fourth U.S. Congressional seat; and Elizabeth Moffly, candidate for State Superintendent of Education.

Misinformed citizens promote fear and confusion.

During the Greenville County Council meeting Tuesday, April 20th, a speaker addressing the Council for an allotted 3 minutes commented that he saw one of the Council members at the Upcountry Tea Party the previous Saturday.
The comment prompted an emotional outburst from Council Woman Lottie Gibson later in the meeting.
Mrs. Gibson stated that she was offended that one of her colleagues would attend a tea party and said the tea parties reminded her of bad memories of past racism, etc.

Speakers Held Most of Crowd for More Than Four Hours
A brisk afternoon breeze eased the sting of the hot sun as speaker after speaker took the stage rigged on the bed of a large trailer at the side entrance of the Bi-Lo Center.
Vendors and spectators began arriving hours before the program was to begin at 1 p.m.
No elected officials were scheduled to speak at the event and most stayed away. A few candidates for office with opposition paid $250 for space for a table and small tent from which to display signs and pass out campaign material. A few elected officials and candidates were dispersed through the crowd, but not very many compared to previous events.
City Pitting Trees Against People and Cars at Washington St. Post Office

Parking and long lines have been a continuous problem at Greenville’s Washington Street Post Office during certain hours of the work day.
The city government as a dues paying member of the International Council on Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) has dutifully planted trees down the middle of the sidewalk servicing the busy Washington Street Post Office and Created traffic islands in the middle of the street and prepared for planting trees down the middle of Washington Street in front of the busy Post Office.
Turner Awarded Scholarship By North Greenville University

Tigerville, SC - Sarah Turner, a current senior at Wade Hampton High School, has been awarded the Crusader Fellow Scholarship by North Greenville University. She was chosen to compete for the scholarship on the basis of her academic achievement and school, church, and community involvement. Turner attended the scholarship competition on February 18, 2010, and interviewed during Scholarship Interview Day at North Greenville University. She is one of only 20 recipients.
Bob Jones University Alumni Distinguished Servant Award

Dr. Bob Jones III was awarded the 2010 Distinguished Servant Award by the Alumni Association Executive Committee for over 50 years of dedicated service to BJU, the community, the state and the nation.
Dr. Jones received a bachelor of arts degree in 1959 and a master of arts degree in 1961, both in interpretative speech from BJU. He served in numerous capacities at the University, including that of speech teacher, assistant dean of men, assistant to the president, and vice president. He was appointed president in 1971.
