INDEPENDENT CONSERVATIVE VOICE OF
UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA

Republican Presidential candidate Ted Cruz went to Bob Jones University, Saturday afternoon, holding the “Rally for Religious Liberty.” Hundreds filled the campus beginning with a moment of silence for the Paris attacks. Cruz exclaimed that Obama is not doing enough to fight ISIS, and if Americans do not act, “we will be mourning another attack like this.”

Cruz began his speech by quoting Martin Luther King, Jr. and reminded the audience that he was indeed a pastor. Cruz then attempts to appeal to conservatives, quoting Reagan’s first speech at Notre Dame after he was shot, stating, “‘Communism is a bizarre chapter in human history, whose last pages even now are being written.’ Let me say that the same is true of radical Islamic terrorism.” In addition, Cruz notes interestingly that Notre Dame had a “tremendous Christian Heritage.”

Cruz then discusses that it is God that gives life and the American government is to allow for liberty and the pursuit of happiness. He uses this as a segway to discuss Roe v. Wade exclaiming, “Without Life there is no liberty and no pursuit of happiness!”

Since then there have been 55 million children murdered through abortion. He then encouraged people who are pro-choice to watch the Planned Parenthood videos to see the people there selling body parts in order to buy a Lamborghini. He questioned the media, “Why won’t you air these videos?” The crowd erupted –  standing, cheering, clapping, and whistling.

The Texas senator told the cheering crowd that the liberal media has also misrepresented the majority as to the issue of gay marriage. The liberal media “wants you to think that everybody agrees with this decision,” Cruz stated. “If it is true that everybody agrees with this decision then why did over 40 states vote to protect traditional marriage?” “Even the people of California stated that marriage is the union between a man and a woman. This is a fundamental threat to our democracy!”

Cruz correctly affirmed that marriage is not mentioned in the Constitution and that falls under the 10th Amendment leaving it up to the states.

Cruz confused America, (which is a republic) with a democracy on several occasions. At first this may seem insignificant; however, this seemingly simple mistake

has tremendous consequences. Consider Karl Marx, author

of the Communist Manifesto

stated, “Democracy is the road to socialism.”

Cruz ended his speech by recognizing all the pastors at the rally by having them stand and thanked them. Cruz’s speech drew several standing ovations by discussing several important issues concerning religious liberty today.
