INDEPENDENT CONSERVATIVE VOICE OF
UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA

TE_Page-03State Senator Mike Fair (R-Greenville), a lifelong native of Greenville, announced today that he will seek re-election to represent the people of Greenville in Senate District 6.

“It has been an honor serving in the State Senate, and I am proud of my conservative record of cutting taxes, supporting economic development, promoting a pro-job environment and protecting our state’s most vulnerable citizens,” said Senator Fair. “I’ve lead real reforms that have made our state an economic powerhouse, strengthened our protection of innocent human life, and made our streets more secure. While I am proud of these accomplishments, I know there is more work to be done. That is why I am announcing today that I will seek re-election to the State Senate in 2016.”

Fair, who has served District 6 since 1995, is considered one of the ranking members of the Senate, a position of seniority and influence that ensures the voice of the people of Greenville County has a prominent place in state issues.

“Mike Fair is one of the most consistent, conservative voices in the General Assembly – championing lower taxes, effective community corrections policies and education reforms that improve the lives of children,” said former US Ambassador and former Speaker of the House David Wilkins. “Mike and I served together for ten years in the SC House of Representatives. His seniority in the SC Senate brings a depth of influence and experience to his service and makes a real difference for the people of Greenville County.”

Fair serves as Chairman of the Corrections and Penology Committee, a member of the Senate’s Education Committee, Medical Affairs Committee and Finance Committee, where he chairs the Public Safety/Criminal Justice subcommittee. In addition, he currently serves as a member of the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee, an independent, non-partisan committee that works to improve educational accountability and foster continuous improvement, a member of the State Board of Trustees of South Carolina First Steps to School Readiness, and he is the Chairman of the Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children.

“I have dedicated my life to public service to help make Greenville County and the entire state of South Carolina a better place to live, work and raise our families,” Fair added. “I am humbled that the voters have consistently supported my work and as senior member of the Senate, and I plan to use my leadership position to do even more for our citizens.”

Fair has served since 1995 as a South Carolina State Senator; previously, he held office from 1985-1995 as a South Carolina State Representative and from 1976-1982 as a Greenville County Councilman. He is the former Chairman of the Greenville County Legislative Delegation, a position which he held from 2006-2014.

Fair graduated from the University of South Carolina. He and his wife, Judy, have one daughter and three grandchildren.
