INDEPENDENT CONSERVATIVE VOICE OF
UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA

Washington, D.C.: This week Andy Schlafly filed an amicus brief on behalf of the Eagle Forum Education & Legal Defense Fund with the U.S. Supreme Court in support of Phyllis Schlafly's strong stance for Republican Party conventions. Specifically, this brief sides with the Utah Republican Party in seeking to overturn a bad Utah law that prevents the nomination of candidates by state political conventions there.

"The effect of this bad law is to prevent Utah Republicans from nominating strong conservatives who will abide by the party platform," said Andy Schlafly. "Supporters of the bad Utah law intended to force the Republican Party to nominate 'moderate' candidates through a public primary, rather than conservative candidates through a party convention."

"Phyllis Schlafly and her organizations have a long history of being active in the courts," said Ed Martin, president of Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. "Andy Schlafly's great work has long been a staple of our legal presence, and this is another win we hope to see for conservatism and bolstering the values of the Republican Party."

Utah Eagle Leader Cherilyn Eagar has opposed this same bad law and we are proud to stand with her in filing this amicus brief.
