Methodist Church and Homosexuality
- By Jim S. Brooks - Roebuck, SC
After reading an article in an upstate newspaper recently (A personal reflection on the General Conference of the United Methodist Church, March 08, 2019) written by Dr. Tom Norrell, Pastor of Central United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, you would be left with the certain impression that he is a sincere man with great human compassion for homosexuals. He wrote, with apparent emotion, that recent actions by the General Conference of the United Methodist Church in St. Louis, Missouri, concerning the churches official view of homosexuality had left him with sadness and fear! His compassion and understanding, however, seems to be grounded on and guided by human reasoning and not biblical reasoning!

Behind the Curtain of the Gender Game
- By Tony Perkins
“It was all a sham.” After four long and difficult years, that’s how Jamie Shupe started making sense of his life again. To the LGBT community, he’d been a hero – a trailblazer in the transgender movement that’s upending society. But there’s a lot more to the story of America’s first “nonbinary” person than that. And he hopes the world is listening.

Ilhan Omar and America’s Dilemma
- By Mike Scruggs
Open Doors and Fifth Columns or Tough-minded Liberty?
Ms. Ilhan Omar has only been a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for two months, but she has caused quite a stir and represents a dilemma facing the United States. She recently told an audience in Washington that “I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is OK to push for allegiance to a foreign country.” She did not say so directly, but her context was about the relationship between the United States and Israel. Tweets and other context soon revealed that Omar was anti-Israel and anti-Jewish.

True Authority Under God
- By Ben Graydon
So, someone is telling you what to do (and you’re not a child, and he’s not your parent). The truth is, unless you are violating the law of God, the only thing that gives that person any authority over you is your agreement to grant him authoritative status. He has no true (“because I said so”) authority.
The lesson of scripture (I Cor. 7:21) is that we should avoid people and institutions that presumptively assume authority over us if we have the opportunity. We have no king but Jesus!

Is The U.S. a Republic, a Democracy, or “Something Else”?
- By W.H. Lamb
Last time we discussed the political spectrum, i.e. what forms of political organization were on the left, center, and right of that imaginary line. We concluded that the U.S., as officially a Constitutional Republic, was about in the middle of that spectrum. Most unbiased and honest political analysts and historians would more or less agree with that placement. But are we truly a “middle-of-the-road” country? Increasingly, I’m confused as to where the government of our country really fits, and I don’t think that I’m alone in my quandary.

Tear Down Those Monuments
- By Ray Simmons
I understand quoting Scripture is anathema these days, nevertheless I deem it very appropriate in many instances. For several years I have been getting the Hillsdale College publication “Imprimis”. I have just been reading the most recent issue (February 2019) titled “Shall We Defend Our Common History?” It is a scathing attack against the current, politically correct assault on many, many historical monuments representing various segments of actual historic eras and events that some minority groups find offensive. The author(Roger Kimball) calls this “…an attack on the past for failing to live up to our contemporary notions of virtue…that we, blessed members of the most enlightened cohort ever to grace the earth with its presence, occupy a moral plane superior to all who came before us.” In other words we are the smartest people to ever live and we can alter history to prove our point. Mr. Kimball goes on to offer much support for his commentary.

The Poisonous Fruits of Socialism
- By Mike Scruggs
A Brief Global Survey of Economic Good and Misery
“Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy.”—Winston Churchill
Churchill had rightly pointed out earlier in his pithy way that “The inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of misery.” It is not just totalitarian communism that doesn’t work. Whenever democracies turn their countries over to demagogues who promise prosperity based on redistribution of property, wealth, and earning power to appeal to the envy and covetousness of ignorant or misinformed voters, calamity and poverty inevitably follow.
