World War II Honor Flight Vets Take Special Ride on B-24 and B-17

On October 26th, the “Wings of Freedom Tour” landed at the Greenville Downtown Airport in South Carolina. They departed on Sunday, October 28th. This was a rare opportunity to visit, explore, and learn more about these unique and rare treasures of our aviation history.
The Consolidated B-24 Liberator “Witchcraft” WWII Heavy Bomber and North American P-51C Mustang “Betty Jane” are the sole remaining examples of their type flying in the World. The vintage Boeing B-17 “Flying Fortress” is one of only 11 in flying condition in the United States.

Conservative Students Host Constitution Week Lectures

To commemorate Constitution Week, the Conservative Students for a Better Tomorrow hosted lectures by author and historian Kevin Gutzman, September 17th and Dr. Don Livingston, September 19th.
Dr. Gutzman, author of The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Constitution and a professor of history at Western Connecticut State University, spoke on James Madison and American Constitutionalism.

Ninth Honor Flight Takes Veterans to See Memorials in Washington, DC

Tuesday, Sept. 18th, 75 World War II veterans left Greenville-Spartanburg Airport on a flight to Washington, DC. Sixty guardians, doctors, nurses, and support staff accompanied the veterans.
Three buses took the group from Reagan National Airport to the WWII War Memorial. As they were boarding the buses, it started to rain. Instead of going to visit the Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Memorials and the Marine Memorial, the staff decided to go to the Naval Museum.

Wade Hampton High School 9/11 Ceremony

Behind the Scenes with Tribute Speaker Cadet Ashleigh Sanford
Last Tuesday, Wade Hampton High School had a moving patriotic ceremony with the Wade Hampton AFJROTC Color Guard in charge of the flag ceremony, Cadet Ashleigh Sanford presenting the 9/11 Tribute speech and Deputy Jeremy Jones and Deputy Fire Chief Billy Smith laying of the 9/11 wreath in front of the flag pole. Chris Mills, Cadet Jonathan Levasseur, and twelve other Cadets stood in formation for the playing of Taps. At the end of the flagpole ceremony, students and faculty had goose bumps as they remember the tragic events that happened that unforgettable day…a day that everyone will remember what they were doing the minute the planes hit the Twin Towers.

American Legion National Convention

The 94th Annual National Convention of the American Legion was called to order by National Commander Fang A. Wong on Tuesday, August 28, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Jose Rene “JR” Martinez was Master of Ceremonies for part of the morning session.
“JR” enlisted in the US Army in 2002 because his mother could not afford to send him to college. He was deployed to Iraq in March 2003. On April 5, 2003, he was driving a Humvee back from a completed mission and the left front tire hit a land mine. He was trapped inside the vehicle, and had burns over 34% of his body, but fortunately he was pulled out of the burning Humvee by a fellow soldier. He was taken to a field hospital and eventually flown to a hospital in Landstuhl, Germany, for treatment and later to a hospital in Texas that specializes in burns treatment.

PFC Adam Corey Ross Buried at Wood Memorial Gardens

Thursday afternoon the chartered plane carrying the body of PFC Adam Corey Ross from Dover Air Force Base, Delaware, landed at Greenville-Spartanburg Airport and then taxed toward the FedEx Terminal.
PFC Adam Ross, 19, was fatally wounded while on patrol in Wardak, Afghanistan on July 24th.
An Honor Guard of SC National Guard soldiers escorted the flag-draped coffin to the Wood Mortuary hearse. More than 200 members of the Patriot Guard and American Legion Riders on motorcycles with flags escorted the hearse to the Wood Mortuary in Greer.

Green Beret General Joins Family Research Council to Fight ‘Culture War’ for America’s Grandkids

(CNSNews.com) - Retired Army Lt. Gen. William G. "Jerry" Boykin--an original member of Delta Force who went on to be the top commander of the Green Berets and then deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence--has joined the Family Research Council, where he says he now hopes to do his part in helping Americans who believe in this nation’s traditional values win an intensifying “culture war” for its future.
“As I have gotten older, I have discovered it is no longer about me, it’s about my grandchildren,” Gen. Boykin said on Thursday, as the FRC announced he was joining the organization as executive vice president.
