House Targets Budget Law for Repeal; Other Old Laws Remain Untouched
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
In South Carolina, it’s still illegal to challenge someone to a duel with a sword, pistol or other deadly weapon.
Other laws on the books that date to the last century or earlier ban such things as, for example:
- Robbing a train after stopping it;
- Swindling in card or dice games;
- Committing adultery or fornication; and
- Operating dance halls on Sundays
Although a number of old laws are no longer observed or enforced, lawmakers have done relatively little in recent years to revise or repeal them. But they’re moving quickly now to eliminate a longstanding law that they routinely have ignored but which supporters say would provide greater transparency in the state budget process.

No, Virginia, ERA is NOT in the Constitution
- By Eagle Forum
Alton, IL – D.C. federal district court judge Rudolf Contreras, an Obama appointee, put yet another nail in the coffin of the long-dead Equal Rights Amendment.
Contreras held that Congress acted within its power when it imposed a seven-year deadline for ratification when the Amendment passed in 1972. In so ruling, Contreras has derailed ERA advocates’ recent effort to revive the Amendment. “The Court will not pull the rug out from under Congress’s long-accepted practice of declaring ratification conditions in a proposing resolution’s preamble based on a technicality,” wrote Contreras.

COVID Bill Is Asymptomatic of Relief
- By Tony Perkins - Family Research Council
Joe Biden said he wanted to meet Republicans halfway on COVID relief. If that's the case, Senator John Kennedy (R-La.) fired back, he's a darn poor judge of distance. "This bill is dreadful," he vented. "It's an orgy of pork... The only way I know how to improve it is with a shredder."
Of course, the American people wouldn't know how awful the $1.9 trillion dollar money pit is because it's had no hearings, no committee debate, no "overt party discussions," Senator Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) reminded everyone on "Washington Watch" Wednesday. The media friends of Biden would have covered it favorable as it was, but now, they're not even covering much at all. Our job, Republicans have said, is to expose the bill for what it is.

Constitutional Convention Is Not the Solution to Big Government
- By Steve Byas
Millions of Americans are understandably frustrated at the inexorable growth of governmental power, especially at the federal level. This frustration has caused many to look for solutions, many of which will either do nothing or have the potential to make the problem worse—much worse.
The proposal for a constitutional convention to supposedly rein in the out-of-control federal behemoth is the greatest example of the latter. In fact, calling a national convention to change our Constitution in our present toxic atmosphere could very well provide the final blow to our constitutional republic. As the late Justice Antonin Scalia once told the Federalist Society, in reference to the push for such a convention, this is a bad century in which to write a Constitution.

Eagle Forum Endorses Effort to Defend Children from Irreversible Damage
- By Eagle Forum
The House of Representatives passed the Equality Act last week which forwards their gender-bending sexual orientation and gender identity ideology. Eagle Forum has long warned against SOGI, especially its potential to irrevocably harm children.
Schools are circumventing parental rights in the classroom by advocating and pushing SOGI ideology on children. Many schools teach SOGI and allow children of the opposite sex to use single-sex restrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams. An increasing number of organizations, like Planned Parenthood, are also advocating for “gender-affirming care”, which means irreversible hormone therapy and surgical sex reassignments. Children who struggle with gender dysphoria often resolve their dysphoria if allowed to mature naturally. The puberty blockers and surgery cause infertility and children “often do not see any lasting benefits with regards to mental health. In fact, many patients experience permanent damage to their cardiovascular health, bone density, and reproductive functions.”
