INDEPENDENT CONSERVATIVE VOICE OF
UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA

These Generals Have Your Back

State Attorneys General Shield Citizens from an Overregulated Federal Government

With the slim Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives and a slim Democrat majority in the U.S. Senate, very few conservative priorities have made it to the President’s desk. In fact, our principled Republicans have spent a lot of time combatting legislation that would infringe on our states’ rights. Fortunately, they have allies in many states who are lending their support.

We would like to shine a spotlight on two Attorneys General in particular. Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey have fought tirelessly to right the wrongs of the Biden administration in their states. Eagle Forum has joined them on several issues that protect families and communities from the overreach of the federal government.

Marshall has been a champion of women and children in his state. Even in a very conservative state like Alabama, they have not been immune to the leftist ideology that serves to erase women and brainwash children. In 2022, the Eagle Forum of Alabama-endorsed Vulnerable Child Compassion and Protection Act (VCAP) bill went into effect which prohibited minors from receiving puberty blockers and genital mutilation surgeries. Despite lawsuits from transgender activists and the U.S. Department of Justice’s attempt to silence proponents of this bill, Marshall continues to champion the protection of children. Having chaired the association of Republican Attorneys General, Marshall consistently joins with other like-minded Attorneys General for collective action on vital issues. In September of this year, he led a brief supporting a similar law in Florida. He stated:

When Alabama’s law was challenged, we fought back, uncovering numerous documents from radical organizations and the Biden-Harris Administration showing that they knew all along that the evidence simply does not support performing sex-change procedures on minors. It is now clearer than ever that the key organizations supporting these procedures, including the federal government, have prioritized politics and ideology over the health of children. I’m grateful Alabama was able to uncover this medical and political scandal, and we will continue to defend children from these life-altering experiments.

He has recognized that the transgender movement isn’t just harming children though. They have used the federal government to force their ideology into all spaces. Marshall filed an amicus brief in the case of Lange v. Houston County, Georgia to prevent employers from being forced to purchase insurance that pays for transgender surgeries. Additionally, he has supported an Alabama law that only allowed biological sex on driver’s licenses. Opponents attempted to challenge this law and add “gender identity” to driver’s licenses. After being upheld by the Eleventh Circuit, a spokesman for Marshall praised the decision saying “the Constitution does not forbid a State from relying on biological sex, rather than novel gender theories, when issuing drivers’ licenses.”

Missouri Attorney General Bailey is spending his time scaling back the reach of the federal government in his state as well. Just like many states in our nation, the illegal immigrant crisis is taking a toll on state healthcare funds and law enforcement resources. An estimated 77,000 to 104,000 illegal aliens are residing in Missouri, which is costing citizens between $342 million and $462 million every year. When Medicare and Medicaid services were expanded to illegal immigrants, Bailey joined 14 other states in suing the Biden administration for the burden inflicted on the states. He stated:

Not only is the Biden-Harris Administration responsible for bringing illegal aliens into Missouri, they are also giving illegal immigrants access to citizen benefits for free, encouraging them to remain here illegally on the taxpayers’ dime. The American people are already struggling to make ends meet in the current economy; their paychecks should fund their own healthcare, not the healthcare of those here illegally. I will continue to use every tool at my disposal to ensure that Missourians’ hard-earned dollars are not funding illegal immigration.

Bailey doesn’t stop there on immigration though. He is holding the Biden-Harris administration accountable for their diversion of border wall funds and their “parole-in-place” program that releases millions of undocumented aliens into the U.S. for years.

In the last year, Bailey has joined other Attorneys General to combat unlawful federal regulations regarding the Title IX rewrite allowing boys in girls’ bathrooms, massive student loan forgiveness, and unconstitutional gun restrictions. He is investigating Planned Parenthood for trafficking minors out of state to obtain abortions and stopping transgender surgeries paid for by the taxpayers.

Eagle Council 52 attendees had the privilege of hearing both Attorneys General speak last week in St. Louis, Missouri. They reminded us of the importance of every elected office in order to ensure state sovereignty and checks and balances. Eagle Forum PAC has endorsed Attorney General Bailey in his re-election. This year, nine additional states will have Attorneys General on their ballots: Indiana, Montana, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Vermont, Washington, and West Virginia. Voting for the person who will uphold the Constitution and defend families could make a difference in your state for years to come.
