UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA

B-cycle-Statoin-in-Greenville

Scheduled to open in the Spring of 2013 Greenville County will begin in the next-next-generation bike-sharing program. With several stations located around Downtown, participants will be able to rent bicycles from a B-cycle station and return it to any other B-station when they are done.

B-cycle is the only bike-sharing program that measures the actual distance traveled on each ride and keeps track of the calories burned and the carbon emissions prevented. This service is available for members that sign up online by creating their own personal online profile.

The service is a product of the partnership between Upstate Forever and Greenville Health System. B-cycle is the collaboration among the companies of Humana, Trek Bicycle Corporation and Crispin Porter + Bogusky.

Those that want to participate will gain a membership online or at any B-station. After choosing a bike at any station they grab it and go. Once they are done they return the bicycle to any station. Each B-cycle is equipped with a proprietary GPS (global positioning system) and RFID (radio frequency identification) technology.

Current locations in Greenville include: Sterling Community Center, 113 Minus St.; County Square, 301 University Ridge; Rhett and River, 55 River St.; City Hall, 206 S. Main St.; Transit Center, 100 W. McBee Ave.; and College & Main, 11 College St.

24 hours passes are available for $5. Once someone is registered as a member the first hour of every trip that is taken is free. Usage fees apply to any ride that is more than 60 minutes. Memberships are $15 weekly and $60 Annual. Each additional 30 minutes are $4 and the max amount charged a day is $75. Operating times are from 5 am to 11 pm.

Annual members get a special Greenville B-card that lets them check out bikes right from the bike’s dock. The replacement fee for the card is $5.

The replacement fee for a B-cycle (bike) is $1000.

The goal is to create a network of stations located within a few blocks from each other throughout the community for a zero-hassle, zero-emission way to get around town.
