Debbie Spaugh, President of the Greenville County Republican Women’s Club, greeted over 90 members, friends and invited guests to the Poinsett Club meeting Thursday. The beautiful ballroom was filled with excited conversations and catching up with the latest events of the Upstate and in particular the Republican primaries. Several candidates for the upcoming Senate and other office races for the June 12th Primary Election day made their way around the room, speaking to supporters and friends.

 

 

Patricia Arceneaux welcomed the guest speakers Dr. Gregory M. Pickett, Associate Dean, College of Business and Behavioral Science, Clemson, at the Falls Campus in Reedy Park, Greenville, and his colleague Gail DePriest, Director of Corporate Relations & Leadership Development. Dr. Pickett and Mrs. DePriest presented a detailed look at some very innovate programs for post graduate students focusing within the MBA area and emphasizing the role of entrepreneurship.  Dr. Pickett is a widely recognized as a researcher and, quoting from the Clemson CBBS website, “He has helped develop a unique leadership program for its students and several challenging undergraduate research experiences funded by external sources that linked communities, nonprofit organizations and businesses to faculty and student talent. He also established the college’s first academic sport program. “

Mrs. DePriest is nationally recognized for her expertise in business, corporate coaching for top performance, merger and acquisition/executive team assimilation, coaching line and general management, and coaching MBA students to leverage their degrees. She has received many accolades and awards for her work with Human Resources and Workplace Innovation. Together with Dr. Pickett they are melding local Upstate business leaders with the groundbreaking programs of the CBBS.

The meeting also featured updates for the membership, noting the next meeting will be March 22nd at noon at the Poinsett Club and is open to any interested persons. The Club, established in 1956, is purposed to “Educate the electorate, to involve women in government and decision making, and to be an effective working organization in support of Republican goals.”

The College of Business and Science has consolidated many of its graduate business and community outreach programs to the former Bowater building overlooking Falls Park on the Reedy River.
