INDEPENDENT CONSERVATIVE VOICE OF
UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA

Scott-Perry-Walker-Haley

When it came time for Governor Nikki Haley to decide if she would run for a second term there were a few deciding factors.

“I sat down and said when I ran the first time that I don’t want to run again if I don’t think we’re moving the ball. I need to know that we’re doing more than just butting heads. I need to know we’re making a difference,” said Haley “And we did that. You looked at our promises and it isn’t what we said, it is what we’ve done…We did that as the team of South Carolina.” Dwight-Loftis---Haley-Announcement

With the support of her entire family, Haley “respectfully and humbly” announced that she would run again as the Governor of South Carolina. Haley’s announcement was made on Monday outside of the Bi-Lo Center in downtown Greenville. Governors Rick Perry of Texas, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and Scott Walker of Wisconsin were on hand to speak in support of Haley’s re-election. U.S. Senator Tim Scott was the emcee for the rally.

Kept promises were the motivating factor in Haley believing she is making progress as the Governor of SC. Some of the kept promises that she listed off were by the restructuring of state government by having the Governor and Lt. Governor run on the same ticket, by stopping trial lawyers ability to “have their way” with SC in the passing of one of the “strongest” tort reforms in the state, by passing voter I.D. laws, by not raising taxes and lowering taxes on small businesses by 26%, by lowering the pension liability two billion dollars while keeping a AAA credit rating, by working on the infrastructure by funding the ports and having them ready, by taking 18 thousand people off welfare and placing them in jobs with a 94% retention rate, by saying “never” to Obamacare and by bringing jobs to the state by recruiting businesses.

“We have the fastest growing economy in the country, the fastest in the Southeast and we’re not slowing down. Wall Street Journal did say if anyone thinks that manufacturing is dead in the United States they haven’t been to South Carolina,” said Haley. “Our unemployment numbers are down to an all time five year low and we are continuing to put people to work.”

Perry had a positive message on how a state competitor looks at SC financial success.

“When [relocating] companies are making decisions about where they can grow…As a person that competes every day with South Carolina, you are on the radar screen,” said Perry. “South Carolina is always in the mix, and it is because you have a governor who understands how to deal with Republicans and Democrats alike in her legislature.”

Before closing her speech, Haley made one last statement, “We are going to continue to go forward until South Carolina is the best, strongest, most successful state in the country.”
