That’s perhaps the most pertinent question facing us today, isn’t it?  A recent article in The New American Magazine, published on March 8, 2021 featuring the insights of C. Mitchel Shaw, titled The Great Awakening, prompted me to reflect on whether or not Americans are truly “awakening” to the dangers posed to their freedom under our increasingly disregarded 1787 Constitution, or are so “woke” by the lies of the main stream media and their almost cult-like and slavish adherence to the babblings of the “gods” of the despicable social media—the collectivist churls who are determined to tell Americans, especially our younger citizens, WHAT to think, WHAT to dislike, and WHO to permit to exercise the increasingly nebulous concept of “free speech”, that they are essentially almost useless in the fight for freedom’s preservation.

Note:  A version of this article was published in The Times Examiner back in November of 2018.  The great thing about true history is that it doesn’t change (if it is true).  It may be purposely changed or “revised” or even obliterated by the collectivist churls who now dominate our main stream media and most of the major publishing companies.  But we owe it to the people of history—to the heroes and villains of the past—to the noble and ignoble deeds they performed--------- we owe it to all of them to tell the TRUTH about what they did—for good or ill-- in their time under the sun.  Their deeds made US what we are today.  And that surely includes a greatly (and purposely) misunderstood group of religious separatists we today call Pilgrims, people who are mercilessly attacked in our day by the mentally deficient clods of the MSM and the “woke” social media, as hopeless racists and the cause of all of our problems in modern America!

Well, should they?  That seems to be a somewhat divisive question of late. Perhaps it depends on how one defines “politics”. Should those of us who identify as Christians, particularly the “born-again variety”, involve ourselves in the often dishonest and somewhat sordid and divisive “blood sport” known as “politics” throughout much of American history, and especially over the past century or so?  Should we allow ourselves to be immersed, to one degree or another, in the “mud-slinging”, the invectives, the anger, the breakup of family and friends, even the violence that is being deliberately  induced within our culture over recent decades—and especially in the past year or two-- by the lovers of “politics”, much of it the leftist/progressive/communist version, as they confront the lovers of “constitutional government”, the form that was established for us by the men and women who founded this nation?  Is a clash of civilizational survival imminent due to this fascination that a significant portion of humanity has with “politics” rather than with “principles”.  Ah, those ARE questions to ponder, aren’t they?  Let’s delve into it.

The "Tower of Babel" - A Ziggurat built during biblical times in what is now Iraq.

“(1) Now the whole world had one language (after the flood of Noah’s time—WHL) and a common speech. (2) As people moved eastward (from the Mountains--a mountain ‘range’, NOT one mountain--WHL) of Ararat they found a plain in Shinar (in Babylonia, present-day Iraq—WHL) and settled there.  (3) They said to each other, ‘Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly’.  They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. (4) Then they said, ‘Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth’. (5) But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower (called The Tower of Babel-WHL) that the men were building.  (6) The LORD said, ‘If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. (7) Come, let us (i.e. The Triune God-WHL) go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other’.  (8) So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city (for they had disobeyed God’s command to ‘be fruitful and multiply and replenish the whole earth to the extent they were able at that time—rather than all of them staying on the ‘Plain of Shinar’, which they had done-WHL).  (9) That is why it was called Babel (in Hebrew the word means ‘confused’-WHL)—because there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth.”

“Then came Jesus forth wearing a crown of thorns, and a purple garment.  And Pilate said unto them, ‘Behold the man’” (ecce homo). - John 19:5- 1599 Geneva Bible

You know, in certain respects one almost feels sorry for Pontius Pilate, the Roman Procurator, or Governor, of the Roman Empire’s Province of Judea from 26 A.D. to 36 A.D.  Judea, especially its capital, Jerusalem, was full of quarrelsome and troublesome Jews whom the Romans considered to be “religious fanatics”.  Here was Pilate—the most powerful representative of Caesar’s government in Judea, who had a reputation for corruption and cruelty, supported by thousands of battle-hardened Roman soldiers who were all too willing to sink their short swords (the famous 20” Roman ‘gladius’) into the flesh of those pesky Jews—caught, in effect, between the rock of upholding Caesar’s laws—and not wanting to condemn Jesus-- and a hard place of placating a mob of fanatics threatening to start a riot at best, or complain to Caesar, at worst, that he-Pilate-was “coddling” a man who proclaimed that he was “king of the Jews”, thus violating one of their most sacred laws.  That he was part of an eternal drama that had been conceived by our Heavenly Father in Eternity past, before time, space, and matter existed, was not remotely a part of his thinking that day.  But Pilate was an “actor” in the most important drama that ever had or ever would happen in the universe—a drama that had been ordained by our Creator before there was a “universe”.

Observations by Hayley Lamb

Hello to everyone.  My name is Hayley Lamb, and you can see my picture at the top of this page.  It was taken recently at my human Aunt Cindy’s house, where she chained me in her kitchen because of my long-time perfectly reasonable determination, whenever I visit her, of getting rid of those horrible cats that she has allowed to live in her house. Just because I caught one of her cats a short time ago and had its neck in my mouth, and just because it was making loud and strange noises, is no reason to keep me chained while those stupid cats run all over the house.   Why any humans would tolerate cats in their house (or in the city in which they live) is beyond me.  Humans are always difficult to figure out.  Have you noticed?  But more on that later.

We all know that our first glorious Revolution of the British American colonies began on April 19, 1775, when the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” was fired on the hallowed public “green” in Lexington, Massachusetts, a place I’ve walked on several times over the years. (It’s one of my very favorite places in the entire nation).  Eight colonists were killed by the British Regulars on or near the Green, and ten were wounded.  That’s when it started.  Right?  Then, it began to blossom a few hours later in Concord, Massachusetts, a few miles from Lexington, as our guys made a stand against that same group of British regulars at the Old North Bridge, over which I’ve walked several times (the several times rebuilt bridge, that is).  So April 19, 1775 is the day that our first American Revolution began.  Everybody knows that (well, everybody used to know that, but today not everybody does know it).

There is another version of the truism expressed in the title to this article, which goes like this:  You can lead a liberal to the facts but you can’t make him think!  It seems logical to ask WHY this troublesome species of American citizens called “liberals” (also known as “progressives”, “socialists”, “maleducated clods”, “non-thinkers”, “left wingers”, and “moonbats”) seem to be so impervious to truth.  Two or three years ago my long-time friends in another state sent me a little tidbit of “truisms” that they had gleaned from the internet.  That article seems to have originated on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and was titled: “Is Logic the Same Thing As Common Sense?”  Let’s look at each of these gems of logical common sense listed therein, and reflect on the degree to which they have made inroads into our society, and whether or not they make “common sense”.   But these amplified comments are mostly my personal biases and beliefs:

• Eleven teens die each day because of texting while driving. Maybe it’s time to raise the age of SMART PHONE ownership to 21!

One of the things my wife and I love to do on Sunday afternoons is to listen to recorded sermons from our favorite pastors.  We listen to the current message from our dear local pastor who sends it to us, and then we click onto the D. James Kennedy Ministries website (djkm.org) and listen to several of the messages that this great hero of the faith recorded many years ago (he went home in 2007).  In addition to great Bible exposition, Dr. Kennedy always managed to weave Christian or American or world history into his messages, and they are always fascinating to  us.  He also often admonished his flock to be good citizens, stalwart patriots in the mode of our original Founding Generation.  He was never hesitant to rail against the evils and injustices that our own government was committing against the American people.  To my mind, D. James Kennedy was the sort of shepherd of the flock that all pastors should be, but that so few actually are.

How prescient was that great, but flawed, man of God, Martin Luther!  We all know, by now, that prayer, Bible reading, and the life lessons taught by God’s Word were long ago (1962 & 1963) banned from our government so-called “schools” or, as I prefer to think of them, anti-education, anti-American centers for the un-education and the corruption of our youth.

What, you may ask, is a social “faux pas”?  Two dictionary definitions should suffice to explain:

• “An embarrassing or tactless act or remark in a social situation;
• A significant or embarrassing error or mistake—a blunder”

To which we might add my definition of a “political ‘faux pas’:

• Any verbal statement, political act, principled stand, support of the U.S. Constitution, defense of Christianity, or admitted vote for the ‘wrong’ candidate that offends the easily offended and brain damaged vermin of the left that have infested and infected the so-called ‘social media’.

One advantage of attaining the status of “senior citizen” (or “old geezer” as some describe us) is that we’ve stored a whole lot of history in that remarkable computer tucked away inside our skulls.  Some of us seem to lose the ability to “retrieve our memory files” as we age, but I’ve been blessed with a still fairly intact memory bank that goes back pretty far (I’ve traded good memory at age 84 for lots of back, leg, and shoulder pain, and a bit of heart trouble, but I consider that to be an acceptable trade off).

Many remarkable, history making, joy inducing, grief causing, incredulity testing, and just plain ‘what in the world happened’ events have affected all of us who have advanced beyond mere “puppyhood”.  Lots of “experienced citizens” I talk with frequently can remember events in their lives that go way, way back.  My earliest memory, I think, goes back to the winter of 1940/41, when my beautiful late 20’s mother pulled her just-turned-four year old son (me)  on a sled out in a snowstorm around the neighborhood where we lived in Lakewood, Ohio (a suburb of Cleveland).  I can still recall the joy we both seemed to feel during that chilly outing.  I remember that it was almost dusk, and I can still see her breath in the cold air and still feel the snowflakes hitting my face.  I recall that she spoke with me; I only wish I could remember what she said.  I have some memories of sitting in a “high chair”, probably long before that memorable sled ride, but the dates elude me.
