Confederate Flag and People Go Together
- By Winston McCuen - Ware Shoals
In the 1820s an elderly Thomas Jefferson lamented the direction of the Union toward centralization and empire. He scolded those responsible, the selfish and ignoble sons of selfless and noble Revolutionary fathers, and he called them unworthy.
But what about South Carolinians today? Are we worthy of our Revolutionary and Confederate fathers?
If the battleflag on the Statehouse grounds is taken down, it will not be because the flag and its symbolism are shameful and therefore unworthy of the people of the state. If it is taken down, it will mean the people themselves have fallen into a shameful, immoral, dumbed-down condition and are therefore unworthy to fly the noble banner of their ancestors.
The Ten Day Nightmare
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
What are the people who said, “it can’t happen here” saying now? The past ten days have been a nightmare for Conservative Christian Americans especially and other Americans who are alert and paying attention.
We have been informed somewhat backhanded that ISIS killers are everywhere and could kill military personnel, their dependents, police or civilians during the Independence Day Holiday weekend. Whether you are attacked by an exploding pressure cooker of a crazed killer with a knife or a portable nuclear weapon, you will be dead.
With all the evil being generated officially by our government, is there any wonder that even the sharks have become demonic and have begun eating people more frequently.
The Confederate Battle Flag
- By Mike Scruggs
The Battle for Historical Truth
The Confederate Battle Flag, sometimes called the Southern Cross, is held in disfavor by many who are unfamiliar with its origin and true symbolism. Many have been taught to treat it as an object of moral horror and political infamy. A deadly combination of ignorance and arrogant self-righteousness is constantly engaged in shouting down its true history and meaning. Demagogues freely defame it, while moral cowardice acquiesces to their outrageous distortions of the truth. The apathetic allow its true history to be buried under decades of slanderous propaganda. It is incumbent upon those who value truth, fairness, good will, reasonable tolerance, and charity in society to educate themselves on the true history and meaning of this famed banner.
Record Crowd at SCV Meeting

Lawmakers Invited Guests Asked to Report on Flag Issue
The Sixteenth Regiment, Sons of Confederate Veterans, in Greenville, honors a unit by that designation composed mostly of men from Greenville and Furman University. The camp had a record turnout at their regular June meeting last Thursday night at the Phoenix Inn. Camp 36 has some 200 active members, however several members of other Upstate camps and non-members were also in attendance.
The scheduled speaker was canceled and the meeting was devoted to discussion of attacks on the Confederate battle flag charged with political expediency. The program change was made with short notice and several Upstate lawmakers were invited.
Defeating ISIS and Restoring America's Greatness
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
A Presentation by John Warren to Republican Women and their Guests
Lima One Capital CEO John Warren, who served as a United States Marine Corps officer in Iraq, was the featured speaker at the Greenville County Republican Women’s Club Annual Americanism program at the Poinsett Club.
Warren discussed how the United States could defeat ISIS and restore our nation’s greatness.
Since the economy is the engine that fuels our national defense, Warren said we must first “control federal spending, reform the tax code and entitlements and repeal damaging regulations.”
He discussed the importance of small business in the economy. He said the 26 million businesses with 500 employees or less employ half of the working Americans.
The Face of Evil
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
A small group of Christians saw the face of evil while gathered at a Charleston Church for Bible Study last Wednesday night. The evil came in the form of a very confused and troubled young man filled with hate. To the best of our knowledge, they never met him before. Although he may have met the Pastor who was a State Senator and well-known in Columbia, near where the alleged killer spent much of his life. He must have felt confident sitting in a room in a gun-free zone with a group of mostly elderly black women. His only motive must have been to shed innocent blood. Nothing else makes any sense.
Logically, his irrational behavior would indicate some sort of satanic influence and possibly manipulation by another individual. No rational sane individual, no matter how mean or full of hate would casually murder a group of mostly elderly women with nothing to be gained and no reason to dislike his victims. After all, his closest friends were black people with whom he had shared his vague plans of mass murder at other locations with different victims.
Haley, Obama Link Murders to Flag and Southern Heritage
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
(Analysis of a Continuing Tragedy)
It was not unexpected to hear President Obama blame the murders of nine Charleston church goers on guns and Southerners because of their history of slavery and “Jim Crow.”
It was surprising and extremely disappointing, however, to see South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley rush out on Monday and link the murders and the deranged murderer with the Confederate battle flag and the Palmetto State’s Southern Heritage.
Governor Haley can be forgiven for her ignorance of factual history, however it was below the dignity of her office to use this vicious tragedy to justify tramping on the memory of Southern patriots and scoring political points on the backs of native South Carolineans.
It appears that Governor Haley has created a steamroller effect and, therefore, there will be little or no opposition from the lawmakers. Southern Heritage groups have been blindsided and will have little opportunity to organize opposition.
Citizens Group Wants Berea School To Become Community Center
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Large Citizen Turnout for Community Meeting
The old Berea High School built by the WPA in the 1930s is for sale. The facility is located on a large lot of choice property in the center of the Berea business district. The well-constructed brick building will be expensive to demolish, which will figure into the cost of any buyer with plans for development.
It is understood that a Florida company has an option to buy the facility. Their plan would be to demolish the current building to make way for a retail outlet. Attempts to obtain specific information on the deal from the School District of Greenville County proved unsuccessful on Monday. If the deal does not work out between the prospective purchaser and the school district, it is estimated that the property could become available for another buyer between September 2015 and January 2016. The Berea community leaders are researching options for buying the building and using it for a community center should it become available for them to arrange a purchase.
To the Winner Goes the Mandate
- By David Thompson
It always seems so lame, the whine that goes up from the loser that the other guy barely won. Or that the beauty contest had all ugly contestants and so nobody wanted anything to do with the result. Remember this: every contest has to have a winner… and the winner gets the prize.
The majority of the country now realize what a foolish mistake it was to elect and, even worse, re-elect Barack Obama; but spin those results any which way and the bottom line remains the same. And yes, he gets the mandate that goes with winning. Fortunately that works both ways, so after the 2014 elections Congress should again have a say as well. But that assumes the weasels that got elected were going to be serious about their oath to uphold the Constitution.
Part of the reason the country now realizes it made a prodigious error voting Obama-the-fox into the chicken coop is that he has some real strange ideas that he is inflicting on America and the world. For example, he apparently is OK with radical Islam…wow.
Hillary’s Plans to Stuff the Ballot Box in 2016
- By Phyllis Schlafly
Hillary Clinton has laid out her game plan for winning back the White House for herself and her husband next year. Let’s hope Republicans were paying attention.
She apparently decided it won’t be enough to rely on the 66 million people who voted twice for Barack Obama, many of whom are disillusioned by the failure of “hope and change.” Obama promised an end to wars in the Middle East, a more prosperous economy for the average American, and more harmonious race relations, but all three problems have only gotten worse.
Since Hillary won’t have the youthful exuberance that propelled Obama to his unlikely double victory, she plans to build a whole new electorate out of people who didn’t vote for Obama. That’s the gist of her speech in Houston last week, which her friends at MSNBC called a “far-reaching vision for expanding access to the ballot box.”
Solomon’s 2015 Sermon for the USA
- By Frank Hall - Greenville, SC
Can you believe, thousands of years ago King Solomon experienced many of the frustrations Americans are struggling with in 2015? Do you want to hear what he did about them?
First, he dedicated himself to finding out for himself (not taking other people’s words) exactly what constitutes the good life, the life he could recommend for all of his subjects. He tried mirth, folly, and pleasures. It was all vanity, empty frivolity. (Eccl 2:1) Then he turned to great works. He built houses, planted vineyards and orchards, dammed creeks and rivers to make pools of water, raised cattle of all kinds in great abundance, provided employment for many men and girls, and collected great wealth in silver and gold. He collected musical instruments of every kind and surrounded himself with men and women who sang and played the instruments.
Republican Party Needs a Leader
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
The Republican Party has an elaborate national organization and a well-paid Chairman of the Republican National Committee, but who knows what they stand for and what they are doing to defeat Hillary Clinton or whoever the Democrat candidate for President will be?
Hillary, a former United States Senator, First Lady and Secretary of State for Barack Obama, is portraying herself as a patriotic American. She has assumed leadership of the Democrats and, while ignoring her alleged criminal past, is doing a great job of consolidating her party base and listing specifically what she will do for each constituency group.

- By Press Release

Students are allowed by State law to miss up to 10 days of school per year, but these Greenville County Schools seniors completed 2,160 days without missing a day, either excused or unexcused. Seniors with 12 years of perfect school attendance are recognized by the South Carolina Department of Education. They each received a special certificate and congratulatory letter from State Superintendent of Education Molly M. Spearman.
Real Immigration Reform
- By Mike Scruggs
Losing Ground to Big Money and Low Information
The first big mistake in U.S. immigration policy was the 1965 “Immigration Reform” Act, which broadened family reunification preference policy from nuclear family (spouses and minor children) to extended family. The extended family policy, which included an endless chain of siblings, parents, and in-laws, resulted in Chain Migration. Chain Migration changed the character of U.S. immigration from limited and selective to an out-of-control immigration tsunami that made immigration an increasing fiscal and social burden on the nation.

Republicans Split Over Obamatrade Fast Track
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Voters Angry and Threatening Reprisals for those Who Vote for Fast Track Authority for Obama
An odd combination of liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans handed President Obama and the Republican leadership a stunning defeat when they defeated TAA, the Trade Adjustment Assistance by an overwhelming vote of 302 to 126. The House narrowly passed TPA, the Trade Promotion Authority by a vote of 219 to 211. House Speaker Bayner promised to attempt to get enough Democrat and Republican votes to pass the TAA by Tuesday, June 16.
The Obama Administration is employing the same tactics they used to pass Obamacare through the Congress. There is no time to read the proposed legislation. In fact much of it is secret and out of sight of members of Congress. The big difference is that Obamacare was passed by a Lame Duck Democrat Congress. This Obamatrade legislation has pulled in the Republican Congressional leadership.
Two Military Veterans Enter Race
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
The first military veterans entered the Republican Primary race for President last week. South Carolina’s Senior Senator Lindsey Graham and former Texas Governor Rick Perry have tossed their hats in the ring. Both served in the United States Air Force, but the similarity ends there. Graham was a JAG Reservist, while Perry was an active duty pilot.
Graham has served his state and nation in both the House and United States Senate. Perry has served as Texas’ longest serving Governor. Perry could be described as a no-compromise conservative, while Graham appears eager, along with his friend John McCain, to compromise with liberal Democrats on the appointment of judges, amnesty for illegal aliens, and some other issues.
Democrats and RINO Republicans will make certain voters do not forget that Perry was on painkiller medication for a back problem. Forgot the third agency he promised to close down in the last presidential primary. He also has a pending legal matter with a democrat in Texas that could create a negative impression on voters who do not know all the facts.
JB Kershaw Members attend Appomattox 150th
- By Jennifer Sawyer
The Long Road Home
Several members of the Joseph Brevard Kershaw Chapter #205 in Laurens attended the 150th anniversary of Lee’s surrender at Appomattox this past April, 2015. The group of four, Jennifer Sawyer, Registrar; Martha Gilchrest, Historian; Kim Lambert, Recording Secretary; and Elaine Thorp, Newsletter Editor, went to an event which they all said they would never forget as long as they lived. It was truly one of the most moving historical events of their lifetime, perhaps only equaled by the Hunley funeral some years back. They were escorted by Thomas B. Sawyer, 1st Lieutenant Commander of the Brigadier General Samuel McGowan Camp #40.
75th Palmetto Boys’ State Program Held on Anderson University Campus
- By Gilbert Scales
The American Legion Department of S.C. takes pride in presenting “Palmetto Boys’ State” 2015.
This annual program is being held on the Anderson University Campus, Anderson, SC. As of Sunday, there were 1,042 boys registered. This is a record enrollment for the Palmetto Boys’ State Program. These young men are sponsored by American Legion Posts from across South Carolina. One of the requirements is that all boys must have completed the 11th grade of high school. These young men either attended public or private schools.
The “citizens” of Palmetto Boys’ State arrived Sunday afternoon, and graduation will be held Saturday morning.

The governmental organization of Palmetto Boys’ State consists of one state, seven judicial circuits, seven counties, twenty-four cities, and twenty-four election precincts.
SC Pastors Back Personhood Constitutional Amendment
- By Richard Cash
The South Carolina Pastors Alliance (SCPA) was the featured guest at a June 2nd press conference held by Sen. Lee Bright to promote a bill (S719, H4093), that if passed, will put a personhood constitutional amendment question on the November, 2016, general election ballot. The press conference was held in the second floor lobby of the Statehouse, between the Senate and House chambers, and was well-attended. After welcoming a group of legislators and pastors to the press conference, Sen. Bright turned it over to SCPA president, Dr. Kevin Baird of Charleston.
Dr. Baird founded the SCPA to help pastors engage the culture with Biblical values, and it was clear that he was very well versed in the fight to protect preborn life beginning at conception. Pastor Baird began with some general comments about life and abortion, stating that, “Every generation has a justice issue and ours is the place and the rights of the preborn. . . Abortion has been the national sore on this nation for 42 years. And the time has come to move courageously and expeditiously to right a wrong that we have allowed to exist for far too long.” He then zeroed in on the crucial issue by explaining, “In 1973 the majority opinion of the infamous Roe v. Wade decision left an open door to define in the future when a preborn baby could be considered legally a person. . . Today, biology, technology, ethics, and theology all agree that the preborn baby is a person from its earliest moments, even conception.”
Paxton Challenged Council on “Secret” Building Plan
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Citizen Ed Paxton, who gives Greenville County Council carefully worded advice at almost every meeting, set his aim on the two-year budget to be approved at the June 16 meeting with little public knowledge of what is involved.
Paxton has accused Council members of allowing the County Administrator to make decisions on large expenditures without the elected representatives of the people and their constituents being fully informed.
According to Paxton, the budget under consideration contains $20 million for construction of a building the Council has not publicly approved.
The County Administrator and certain members of Council are apparently working toward building a high-rise office building for county offices. It has been alleged that mayor Knox White and insider developers want the site of the current County offices for development, making it necessary for the County to move.
Christie Would-Be Advocate of Compromise, Means Test Government Benefits
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Christie would rebuild National Defense, enhance intelligence services and strongly support the Patriot Act
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie strolled into Timmy’s Country Ham House last Wednesday talking and more than an hour later strolled out talking.
Governor Christie is a tough talker with a charming personalty. He moved around in a small circle in the midst of a friendly crowd of more than 200 people giving his standard campaign speech and answering questions. The somewhat controversial governor thinks quickly on his feet and is skillful at modifying questions to his liking.
He began by talking about the necessity to deal with entitlements, a topic he said the other Presidential candidates will not touch. He proposed means testing Social Security and reducing benefits for individuals earning in excess of $200,000 annually.
Freedom for Sale or Trade
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Freedom Comes from God, however man must defend and protect it or other men, greedy for wealth, power or fame will purchase, barter or trade it. Freedom is purchased and preserved for a price. There are those who pay the price for freedom and those who are willing to sell or trade freedom for a price to enrich themselves, purchase promises of security and comfort or to gain power over others.
Before the United States was created as a representative republic, all nations were ruled by kings or dictators. For the first time in history, the people of this country were protected by a Bill of Rights in a Constitution. We were free men and women with the right to own property and determine what to do with it. This freedom and the free enterprise system it produced, created the greatest standard of living the world had ever known.
This wealth and high standard of living resulted in both envy and hate. Individuals wanted to come to the United States and take advantage of the opportunities this unique free country offered. No external power was able to conquer the power of the economic engine the free enterprise system produced.

In response to a question from a citizen concerned about the influence of the influx of Muslims into the country, Santorum said he was “not concerned about the rise of Islam in the United States.”
He is concerned about the numerous regulations being imposed by the Obama Administration on businesses, especially the one regulating ozone. He said he would start rolling back regulations on the first day of his administration if elected.

DAR Ceremony Honored Vietnam Vets
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
There is a Strong Connection Between the current serving generation of Veterans and the Vietnam Generation of Veterans
The Nathanael Greene Chapter of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, held a ceremony last Saturday honoring Veterans of the Vietnam War era.
The Nathanael Greene Chapter is a commemorative Partner with the Department of Defense Vietnam War Commemoration program. Congress authorized the Department of Defense to work through groups such as the DAR to assist a grateful nation in thanking and honoring the veterans of the Vietnam war and their families.
Congress recognized that Vietnam era veterans are a unique group because of the way they were treated by their country during and after the war. “There is such a strong connection between the current serving generation of veterans and our Vietnam generation, mainly because the Vietnam generation of veterans wants to ensure the treatment our current service members receive is very different than what many of them experienced when they served.”Although there will be national and international events commemorating the sacrifices of American troops in Vietnam, the most import events will be held in the home towns. This was the focus of the Nathanael Greenville Chapter of the DAR last Saturday. It was a hometown family event with deep purpose and meaning. It was a pleasant and meaningful event for the aging veterans to remember.
