Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] celebrates 30 years of operation in Greenville, S.C., this week as an aircraft modification, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MMRO) facility. The company signed a lease with the Donaldson Development Commission on August 27, 1984, to begin operations as the Lockheed Aeromod Center, Inc.

The original footprint of the two hangars and one office building, located at the former U.S. Army Air Force base, quickly expanded to accommodate the influx of military and commercial aircraft. The inaugural team of 12 employees welcomed a P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft to the facility as the first aircraft in work.

Annemarie Verdin of Laurens and Sean Douglas Neal of Heath Springs were united in marriage Aug. 9, 2014, in Laurens.

The Rev. Barry Owens of Charleston officiated at the 6 p.m. ceremony.

Wedding music was provided by organist Dr. Leigh Fleury of Clinton and vocalists Dr. Andrew Verdin of Laurens and Mrs. Kate Spigener of Clinton.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride’s grandparents in Laurens.

The bride is the daughter of The Honorable and Mrs. Daniel B. Verdin III of Laurens.

The Slater-Marietta Lions Club was joined by more than a hundred leading citizens at Marietta First Baptist Church, Saturday afternoon, to honor a true gentleman and a living example of honesty, integrity. charity, modesty and unconditional love as described by his pastor, his barber, his friends and neighbors, his children and grandchildren.

Brock Adams will celebrate his 99th birthday this month. A farmer and textile worker for most of his life, Adams has arguably had a positive impact on more lives than any living resident of the Slater-Marietta community.

His County Council member, state Representative and Senator read proclamations enumerating his many accomplishments and contributions to his community, proclaiming a day in his honor.

His current pastor commended him for not being a “church hopper” and moving from church to church because of disagreements. Being disagreeable is not a part of Brock Adams. He has been a member of the same church most of his life and at age 99 continues to serve as a deacon.

Teddy-Bears-for-Deputies-02

Compatriots, your efforts (Teddy Bears for Deputies) have helped show the Sons of Confederate Veterans, especially Camp 36, in a positive manner. Master Deputy Natalie Hill of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office picked up the plush animals from the Museum and Library of Confederate History on Thursday, July 31, 2014.

Commander Doug Langley and Lieutenant Commander Rollis Smith made the donation on behalf of the Camp with Museum Director Michael Couch taking photographs of the occasion held in the Annex Building. Master Deputy Hill was very excited to see the numbers we collected, and hopes we will do this again in the future.

Lisa Benson, Talk Show Host Issues “Call to Action”

Lisa Benson, host of the Lisa Benson Radio Show for National Security, was guest speaker at the July Luncheon of the Greenville County Republican Women’s Club. Her topic was The Bible belt Under Shariah Assault: A Call to Action.

Lisa Benson described herself as a “conservative Jewish woman” acknowledging that most Jews in America are socialist Democrats.

She quoted Franklin Graham saying that a majority of Christians did not vote in the last presidential election. That contributed to the election of Barack Obama to a second term and contributed to the problems we face today.

She reminded her audience that radical Muslims are slaughtering Christians throughout the world and six are serving in the Obama White House.

Addiction is a serious problem in Upstate South Carolina and throughout our society. Many lives are destroyed by addiction to alcohol, illegal drugs, and prescription drugs, to name a few. Addiction takes its toll on families and taxpayers. It is virtually impossible for an addict to become free from addiction on his own.

A proven solution is available to all who seek it; however, most pursue popular, politically correct avenues of treatment without lasting success.

There are many drug treatment programs. Some substitute legal substances for the illegal drugs. Some use various psychological techniques. Any one of these programs may provide temporary relief, or an illusion of relief, but the individual remains an addict with a craving for the drug.

Hollys-Parents_Page-16 Dale and Shirley Roberts, grandparents of The Time Examiner columnists Heather and Raquelle Sheen, recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Dale is a native of Texas and Shirley hails from Oklahoma, but they were married in Lewiston, Idaho--the first wedding held in the very-new Orchards Baptist Church. In fact, the church 'building' was still simply a large tent.

With five children and their families scattered literally from coast-to-coast, a family celebration and reunion was held at a beautiful lodge in Mineola, Texas. This was the first time in years that the entire family had all been together. Everyone made it!
