Why Not a "Holy Peace?"
- By Dr. Al Snyder
The term, "Jihad," in the Moslem vocabulary means "holy war." To me, it's quite a stretch to think of war as "holy." Wouldn't you consider peace to be a lot more "holy?" Shouldn't the Moslems be promoting "holy peace" instead of "holy war?"
"Jihad" seems to be an important doctrinal concept to Moslems. It comes directly from the Moslems' supposedly holy book, the Koran. It is taught as the main means for the spreading of Islam to non-Moslem peoples and nations. Islam has grown and advanced historically primarily by warfare, by conquering with the sword. It has sometimes been called, "the religion of the sword."

Occupy Wall Street Tries to Crash the Tea Party
- By Tony Beam
If your primary source of news is the mainstream media you are likely convinced that the Occupy Wall Street protests are insightful, peaceful, and growing by the minute. Last week, Diane Sawyer of ABC got so excited she reported the Occupy Wall Street movement had “spread to more than 250 American cities, more than a thousand countries…and every continent but Antarctica.” For the record, according to the U.S. State Department there are only 195 countries in the world.

If You Think You Are Standing Firm ...
- By Raquel Sheen
Scripture tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:12 that if we think we are standing firm, we must be careful that we do not fall. Recently I was saddened to hear bad news about several old friends. These friends were conservative Christian home-schooling families who seemed to be the “model homeschoolers.” So when I heard that their families had been broken apart, I was somewhat stunned. I began to ponder how easy it is for even a “model family” to fall off the path. I believe it starts when we stop putting our faith in Jesus for grace to serve Him each day and instead begin to rely on other things. They may even be good things, but a reliance on them is a reliance on externals, not internals. Following are some externals that may become substitutes for Christ.

SC Legislature Supports Israel
- By Dr. Al Snyder
The South Carolina House of Representatives passed a significant resolution recently, commending the nation of Israel for its relations with the United States of America and with the State of South Carolina. The resolution did not generate any special news attention, but I thought it was important enough to report it to you.

Paul & Ann Downings
- By Keith Crowe
This week’s feature is a flashback to one of the top groups of yesteryear, the Downings. The story of the Downings begins as a classic boy-meets-girl story. Virginia Ann Sanders of Pittsboro, MS, grew up on a cotton farm and had dreams of singing gospel music all over the world. Her family was supportive of those dreams, making sure Ann had the best music teachers and singing schools in the area to attend. Ann listened to a variety of music as a girl, and was a fan of Patti Page and Rosemary Clooney in particular, but since her aspirations were in gospel, it was her interest in Ginger Smith Laxson, soprano and pianist for the Speer Family, that would ultimately pay off for her.

Harold Lane
- By Keith Crowe
This week I am featuring one of the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame members and this feature will be a tribute to his life. Harold Lane is his name and he is from Huntington, West Virginia, and he now makes his home in Heaven. Harold was promoted to the Heavenly choir in June of this year.
Like many youngsters in that part of the country, church was a very big part of his life. And it’s certainly not a long stretch to go from church to music, and young Harold fell in love quickly with the music of the church. It didn’t take Lane long to decide that music would be his calling. He spent a lot of his youth learning how to sing and play a variety of musical instruments. When he entered the service, he continued to study music in Germany during his military stint. Since he loved the gospel quartet music of his home country, he developed a dream of forming an outstanding gospel group that would be unique and distinct from other groups of his time and place.

What Does U.N. Vote Mean to Israel?
- By Dr. Al Snyder
Talk has been wildly circulating for several months now about the United Nations declaring an Arab "Palestinian" state in September. Plans are underway for the UN General Assembly to pass a resoluition to declare "Palestine" to be a new, independent state, in lieu of the unwillingness of Israel to simply give away half of their little bit of land for the occupying Arabs to have another Arab state of their own.
It will require a two-thirds vote, or 128 votes in the General Assembly to pass the resolution, and the Palestinians have stated that they already have assurances of 120 of the 128 votes needed. However, the declaration will not be "legal" unless the UN Security Council also agrees. Israel is counting on the United States to veto the proposal in the Security Council, but the Palestinians are hoping that US President Barack Obama will side with the Arabs and Moslems and make the US approve.
