Christiana-KEndall_Page-05Winnie Davis Chapter 442, United Daughters of the Confederacy, met on Monday, January 13, 2014, at the Museum and Library of Confederate History, 15 Boyce Avenue, Greenville, SC. The hostess for the meeting was Dona Morgan, Chapter President. Dona Morgan presented a new member certificate and welcomed Christiana Kendall into membership under the record of her Great Great Great Grandfather, William Pittman.  William Pittman fought in the War Between the States, Company D, 28th Regiment, Georgia.  William enlisted 31 October 1861 at Camp Stephens as a Private.  Private Pittman was born in Pendleton, SC and was a member of the United Confederate Veterans, where he received a Southern Cross of Honor.  Private Pittman was a Musician during the war.  William was discharged  12 May 1863 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. 

By-Laws Chairman, Martha Van Schaick, presented Chapter By-Laws.  Food donations were brought for Back Pack Ministries and Angel Ministries, a joint project of Winnie Davis Chapter 442, UDC and Joseph Evan Davis Chapter 907, Children of the Confederacy. Plastic bottle caps, aluminum pop tops, cancelled postage stamps, box tops and labels for education, and small toiletries were also donated for the ongoing projects of both of these chapters. Our next Chapter meeting will be held on Monday, February 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum. Ladies with Confederate ancestry are invited to visit.
