U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos today recognized five South Carolina schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2018, including Tigerville Elementary in Taylors, S.C. The recognition is based on schools’ overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Tigerville becomes the 15th school in the District to win National Blue Ribbon status.
Looking at the push and pull, the hate, the graft, the lack of statesmanship and the overabundance of politicking as essentially one man battles for a return to sanity in Washington, I cannot help being drawn back in memory to times that now seem forever ago. I am sickened by what I find and by the guilt that keeps telling me I should have been a better watchman on the wall several decades ago. I know I saw some things going on that disturbed me and I should have searched a little deeper into the cause and effect, the whys and the wherefores. But what could I have done if I found them? I was just a tiny speck merged into planning that had its origin years, if not centuries, ago. I’m sure I discussed some of what I was thinking with one or two friends who had some of the same ideas, and I’m sure I wrote to a Congressman or two. I was doing my civic duty. Back then I even had the idea that Congressmen read their letters.

Lawmakers left one major question unanswered when they left Columbia earlier this year: How will the South Carolinian’s state income tax be calculated next year? The General Assembly will address this when they come back next week. Here’s what you need to know.
In South Carolina, state taxable income mirrors the federal taxable income (for the most part). However, this doesn’t happen automatically. Every year, lawmakers pass legislation officially adopting the federal tax code in order to ensure that the federal adjusted gross income and the state adjusted gross income are identical (except for certain provisions the state tax code opts out of).
On Tuesday, October 2nd at 9:30 a.m. Mauldin Middle School will welcome Governor Henry McMaster, National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Council Chairman Jake Steinfeld, Mauldin Mayor Dennis Raines and Superintendent Burke Royster to celebrate the school’s new DON’T QUIT! TM Fitness Center.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03) praised the passage of the Tax Reform 2.0 bill in the House of Representatives:
“Our economy has been on fire since the passage of historic tax cuts last year, and it’s just getting started. Americans have been seeing more money in their pockets, bonuses, improved benefits, and enhanced retirement packages as companies have more flexibility to invest in their employees. We have seen companies bring back wealth from overseas, create jobs, and invest in employees like never before.

MADISON, Wis. -- At the USA Olympic Committee's Team USA website, they have a story about USA Olympic hockey gold medalist Meghan Duggan 'marrying' Gillian Apps, who played hockey for Team Canada.
Duggan was captain for Team USA at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang. The U.S. women's team defeated Canada to win its second gold medal ever.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that they have terminated a contract with fetal procurement company, Advanced Bioscience Resources, Inc. In June of this year, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) signed a contract with them for research into creating mice with human immune systems. The contract used disturbing language, such as the acquiring “fresh” fetal tissue. They promised to use the “highest ethical standards”, however, there is nothing ethical about experimenting with baby body parts.
Judge Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court was approved on an 11-10 party-line vote Friday in the Senate Judiciary Committee. Yet his confirmation is not assured.
Sen. Jeff Flake, Republican of Arizona, has demanded and gotten as the price of his vote on the floor, a weeklong delay. And the GOP Senate has agreed to Democrat demands for a new FBI investigation of all credible charges of sexual abuse against the judge.
The S.C. Department of Transportation continues to sit on most of the hundreds of millions of dollars collected since the gas-tax-hike law went into effect nearly 15 months ago.
Less than $9 million, or 2.7 percent, of the $324.2 million collected between July 1, 2017, and July 31 of this year was spent on “external” projects, according to the most recently available records released by DOT.
As The Nerve first reported earlier this month, the latest online records show that DOT has spent no proceeds in 20 of the state’s 46 counties, including larger counties such as Beaufort, Lexington and Spartanburg.
MONTGOMERY, Ala -- On September 25 the Wisconsin-based Freedom from Religion Foundation ("FFRF"), an atheist organization that denies the existence of God, sent a letter to Judge Moore as President Emeritus of the Foundation for Moral Law ("FML"). The letter criticized FML's press conference of September 21 during which Judge Moore advised Alabama school districts that under governing Eleventh Circuit precedent student messages before athletic events, religious or otherwise, were constitutional.
On September 26, FFRF posted on its website a press release based on the letter. Attached to this press release are FFRF's letter of September 25 and Judge Moore's letter in reply dated September 27.
I want to tell you about my upcoming book, "Jesus Is Risen, Paul and the Early Church," for release Oct. 2. This is my fourth Christian-themed book and I am more enthused with each one.
Ever since I became a believer, I've been eager to share my experiences. Ever since I began to study the Bible, I've been anxious to share what I've learned with people who may be skeptics or unsure, like I used to be.
In my first Christian-themed book, "Jesus on Trial," I recounted my personal faith journey from skeptic to believer. Next was "The Emmaus Code," in which I detailed the countless ways the Old Testament points to Jesus Christ.
COLUMBIA, S.C. –Element Materials Technology(Element), a leader in materials and product qualification testing, today announced plans to open new operations in Anderson County. The company’s $3.4 million investment is projected to create 31 new jobs.
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jeff Duncan praised the passage of House Resolution 1071 which disavows illegal immigrant voting in the United States:
“As I have said time and time again, being an American citizen comes with great benefits and responsibilities, which includes voting in elections. For generations, brave men and women have fought and died in order to protect the fundamental right of American citizens to participate in free and fair elections.
The Swamp Rabbit Station made the children's book Mystery on the GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail available at Swamp Rabbit Station on Saturday, September 21st. S.C. lawmakers have once again delayed filling a $107,822 seat on the state Public Service Commission, which routinely approved electric rate hikes for the failed V.C. Summer nuclear project.
A screening hearing for PSC Seat 2, which was supposed to have been held Monday of this week, was postponed, according to a release from the legislatively controlled State Regulation of Public Utilities Review Committee (PURC), which nominates PSC candidates for election in the Legislature and largely controls the regulation of utilities in South Carolina.
Delaying the Senate vote has not helped anyone except those smearing the good man nominated to the Supreme Court. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell seems to have lost his way in supporting delay after delay on an up-or-down vote for Brett Kavanaugh.
McConnell promised that Kavanaugh will be confirmed, but his strategy has kicked away Democrats who might have supported the nominee. By giving a platform to Kavanaugh’s accusers, McConnell has merely provided political cover for every Democrat in the chamber, such as Claire McCaskill who is in a tight race in Missouri.
Washington, D.C.: At Gateway Eagle Council in St. Louis, MO, Eagle leaders from across the country wrote thank you letters to Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) for his courageous leadership.
Congressional Opponents and some of their allies in the media have adopted an unprecedented standard of guilty until proven innocent to use thin and unsubstantiated claims to smear Judge Kavanaugh who POTUS has nominated for our next Supreme Court Justice.
With blatant disregard for the health of America, women and children in particular, the anti-life contingent continues to peddle violence under the guise of a false narrative for justice by "resisting" the appointment of Judge Kavanaugh to SCOTUS.
Conservatives of the Upstate, a local Pickens County grassroots group whose mission is to bring together like-minded conservatives to take action recently had several sources who contacted us with concerns of nepotism taking place in Pickens County. We took these concerns seriously. Nepotism rarely places the best individual into any contracted job, not to mention it is against the law in SC. So we proceeded with a FOIA request.
Until two weeks ago, President Donald Trump's nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court seemed a sure thing. He ably handled more than 1,200 questions put to him by members of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He demonstrated even to his adversaries a masterful command of constitutional jurisprudence. The FBI had completed six background investigations of Kavanaugh throughout his career in government, and it found no blemishes.
Trump promised that he would appoint federal judges and justices who generally share his views on life, guns and administrative regulations and who have a minimalistic view of federal power. When he announced the Kavanaugh nomination, it appeared he had found his man.
ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- On Monday, September 24th, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that it terminated the contract between the FDA and Advance Bioscience Resources (ABR), which allocated taxpayer money to purchase "fresh" aborted fetal body parts for experimentation. As part of the groundswell of opposition that rose up from exposure of this relationship, Personhood Alliance and Citizen Go hand-delivered nearly 16,500 petition signatures to key leaders in DC and sent 18,000 emails directly to HHS Secretary Alex Azar.

Please bring a pie or other fall dessert to share! Magnuson for House will provide ice cream. Please email
When Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden and ate of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, they went and hid. They made themselves coverings of fig leaves to hide their nakedness. The habit continues today – people covering their weaknesses, their failures, their shortfalls, their embarrassments, their insecurities with fig leaves.
A church needs a leader without fig leaves – one who will be for them the model of a spiritual nudist. Unfortunately, that model is not standard. What most see is a very polished, very covered up artificial contrivance. Consider:
Greenville County Councilman Willis Meadows officially announced today the beginning of his campaign for re-election to Greenville County Council District 19 seat.
Meadows, vice chairman of County Council, who is currently owner of a Greenville insurance agency, said that he will continue to give the district "an effective, experienced and conservative voice on Greenville County Council.
For legions of unwitting students and teachers across the country, this is the dangerous, de facto data policy Google has imposed over their school districts. An estimated 80 million students and teachers are now signed up for free "G Suite for Education" accounts (formerly known as Google Apps for Education); more than 25 million students and teachers now use Google Chromebooks. A Google logon is the key to accessing homework, quizzes, tests, group discussions, presentations, spreadsheets and other "seamless communication." Without it, students and teachers are locked out of their own virtual classrooms.
JERUSALEM -- The first Sunday of every October marks the annual Day of Prayer for the Peace Jerusalem. Launched in 2002, by Evangelical Christian Leaders, Dr. Jack W. Hayford and Bishop Robert Stearns, millions around the world now join in on this annual observance. This year, however, hundreds of millennial evangelicals are not just praying, but they are engaging in a 21 day fast, and then traveling to Jerusalem, many of them for the first time.
