Travelers Rest Planning Commission Recommends Denial for Inn at Altamont
- Details
- By Benton Blount - Chairman of Greenville County Council
This week, the Travelers Rest Planning Commission took a major step regarding the proposed Inn at Altamont — a controversial 150-room luxury hotel project on Paris Mountain.
After a packed public hearing where dozens of citizens spoke out in opposition, the Planning Commission voted 5-1 to recommend denial of the annexation request needed for the hotel to move forward.
Here’s what happened:
- Residents raised serious concerns about the project’s impact on traffic safety, water runoff, sewer infrastructure, and environmental preservation.
- Six major conservation groups — including Upstate Forever, Friends of the Reedy River, Naturaland Trust, and Save Our Saluda — also formally opposed the development.
- Only two citizens spoke in favor, citing potential economic benefits.
- Despite the city’s planning staff recommending approval based on technical consistency with the city’s comprehensive plan, commissioners said the overwhelming public outcry could not be ignored.
SC Awash in Multibillion-Dollar Surplus of 'Other' Funds
- Details
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve

In South Carolina, $8.6 billion represents about $1,600 for every man, woman and child.
It’s also the total amount of “other” fund surpluses that state agencies carried into the start of this fiscal year, The Nerve found in a review of records provided by the S.C. Department of Administration under the state Freedom of information Act.
The Nerve’s review found that other fund surpluses among 101 state agencies or major divisions, plus a separate state fund for county road projects, at the beginning of this fiscal year collectively were $594.4 million, or about 7.4%, more than the $8.05 billion in total reserves at the beginning of the previous fiscal year.

Report to the President on Protecting Children from Surgical and Chemical Mutilation Executive Summary
- Details
- By The White House
— The White House releases the following fact sheet:
Background
Under President Biden, the Federal government promoted a grotesque social and scientific experiment on American children. During the first three years of his administration alone, more than 7,000 children were administered puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones. Over 4,000 were subjected to sex-trait modification surgical interventions, such as mastectomies. These interventions were marketed to children on the basis of ideologically driven and financially motivated junk-science.
6 Days Left: Major Bills Need Your Voice!
- Details
- By SC Freedom Caucus
We are down to just six working days left in the 2025 legislative session — and there’s still so much critical work left unfinished.
Despite the South Carolina House passing strong conservative legislation months ago, the Senate has yet to act on two major priorities:
- Banning DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) from state agencies and public universities (H. 4027)
- Establishing school choice so that a child’s zip code doesn’t determine their educational outcomes (S. 62)
Our frustration is real — and so is our determination to fight for you until the last hour of session.
