Those on the political left wouldn't be fighting to the death over the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation if they were as committed to the Constitution and the rule of law as conservatives are. All of their phony hand-wringing is particularly ironic given their cynical attitude toward the Supreme Court's role.
They are pulling out all the stops to delay -- and thus defeat -- the confirmation because they are hysterically obsessed foremost with preserving the court's judicially manufactured precedent in Roe v. Wade of a constitutional right to abortion. There is nothing in the Constitution even remotely hinting of such a federally protected right, but the left is as adamant about protecting it as you would expect a mother to be about protecting the health and welfare of her children.

Yesterday, after Governor Henry McMaster personally intervened to broker a compromise, the State Infrastructure Bank voted to move forward with the I-526 project. The governor's hands-on approach to finding a solution has garnered widespread praise for reviving a deal that otherwise would not have been realized.
Americans have never supported quotas, as other countries do. We take pride in being the land of opportunity based on merit, regardless of race, creed, gender or religion.
But California just took another left turn in its newly enacted SB 826, which requires gender quotas on corporate boards. Publicly owned California companies must have at least one woman on their Boards of Directors and, for larger companies, three women by 2021.

Tom Fernandez says he was just trying to make a serious point – in a humorous way – about the S.C. Department of Transportation’s pothole-repair program.
On Aug. 29, DOT posted a video on the agency’s Facebook page titled, “How does a pothole get repaired?” About two weeks earlier, Fernandez, a Berkeley County businessman and frequent critic of DOT on social media, posted a parody video on one of his Facebook pages showing him filling a pothole on a rural road with two pizzas.
Harsh winds are blowing on Capitol Hill. The hoped-for and feared clash between Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh and his principal accuser, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, has come and gone, with all of its calculated and spontaneous outbursts, as well as gut-wrenching emotion.
Dr. Ford subjected herself to the public humiliation of revealing an intimate and horrific event, and she did so with grace and credibility. Judge Kavanaugh subjected himself to absurd questions about his youth, and he offered compelling denials with ferocity and indignation.
How did we get here? The Kavanaugh Supreme Court nomination circus didn't happen by accident. The emergence of incredible -- and by "incredible," I mean the literal Merriam-Webster definition of "too extraordinary and improbable to be believed" -- accusers in the 11th hour was no mistake.
It is my contention that this grand unearth-and-destroy spectacle was planned, coordinated and facilitated by Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats and their staffers.
After the FBI finishes its Freshmen Booze Investigations, Federal Barfight Interrogations and Fraternity Barfing Incidents probe of every last Yale and Holton Arms acquaintance and publicity hound ever photographed with Judge Brett Kavanaugh, every cog in the Resistance Wrecking Machine must be investigated:

History is being made in animal welfare across South Carolina October 5 – 7. That’s when Pick Me! SC takes place at an animal shelter or rescue near you! Sponsored by the Petco Foundation and organized by No Kill South Carolina (NKSC) – the goal is to save 1,500 lives through adoptions in just one weekend. Most shelters are offering “no-fee” or “low-fee” adoptions as part of this lifesaving event.
“This really is the culmination of a dream come true,” said the Director of NKSC Abigail Kamleiter. “No Kill South Carolina has worked so hard for the past three years to bring all of our shelters together and Pick Me! SC is the perfect example of how all of us are stronger – together.”
Laurens, S.C. – Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03), along with Members of the South Carolina delegation, responded to a recent letter regarding the Charleston Boeing facility:
“It seems that Members of Congress from states other than South Carolina think they know what is best for our businesses and our workforce. Companies, like Boeing, come to the Palmetto State for our amazing business atmosphere, our talented and dedicated workforce, and our right-to-work status.
The U.S. Supreme Court kicked off its fall term this morning, but most eyes were on the empty seat. Heading into a packed season of cases, the biggest question isn't how the justices will handle their cases, but who will be with them when they do?
Senate Democrats are willing to do anything to keep the Court from returning to its constitutional moorings -- including setting fire to an innocent man's reputation. In less than two weeks, they turned Brett Kavanaugh's lifetime of service and legal accomplishment into a smoldering pile of ash -- using a 36-year-old sexual assault claim that not a single person can substantiate. Rachel Mitchell, the special prosecutor at the Senate hearing, looked at all of the evidence from last week's testimony and concluded that the "he said, she said" accusations from 1982 would normally be "incredibly difficult to prove." But, she went on, "this case is even weaker than that."

Laurens, S.C. – Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03) praised the Trump administration for the new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA):
“President Trump successfully negotiated a new trade deal with both Mexico and Canada. The deal eliminates Canada's protectionist dairy tariffs, requires wage increases for Mexican autoworkers to prevent American jobs from being sent across the border, and includes a host of other updates and reforms that will benefit the United States. This is a huge win for the American worker – another promise made and another promise kept. I applaud President Trump and his team for keeping America first, and I look forward to reviewing the final language.”

“Show me the man, and I’ll find you the crime.” - Lavrentiy Beria, Chief of Stalin’s Secret Police
The Democrat Party is drawing closer and closer to the Stalinist brand of justice that prevailed under the Communist regime of the brutal dictator, Joseph Stalin, from 1922 to 1953. But it was originally a party loyal to the ideas of Thomas Jefferson and Constitutional government.
My grandfather, W.C. Bradsher, was a Democrat County Chairman in Greene County, Arkansas, during the Roosevelt Administration. He was a former teacher, school principal, and an affable and astute cotton-buyer, cotton-gin owner, banker, and Rotary Club member, very active in community affairs. One of the most treasured and often read books in his library was a collection of the writings of Roman Senator Marcus Tullius Cicero (106 to 43 BC).
I wrote a version of this column in the printed version of The Times Examiner back in 2013. The “historical” part was written by someone named “Robert”—and I still don’t know his last name. Considering that it deals with our 2nd Amendment, and considering the degree of hatred and derision being directed against this great freedom by people who should be rejoicing that we have it, and considering that if we lose our 2nd Amendment sometime in the future, then much or all of our Constitution will go down with it, a “decent respect” for the opinions of my fellow Americans impels me to share these thoughts with you once again.
President Barack Obama's first education secretary, Arne Duncan, gave a speech on the 45th anniversary of "Bloody Sunday" at the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, where, in 1965, state troopers beat and tear-gassed hundreds of peaceful civil rights marchers who were demanding voting rights. Later that year, as a result of widespread support across the nation, the U.S. Congress passed the Voting Rights Act. Secretary Duncan titled his speech "Crossing the Next Bridge." Duncan told the crowd that black students "are more than three times as likely to be expelled as their white peers," adding that Martin Luther King would be "dismayed."
Dr. Christine Blasey Ford alleges that on an unknown date in 1982 she attended a party at a house of unknown address where an unknown number of mostly teen-aged party goers stood around sipping beer and socializing. At a certain point she decided, for an unknown reason, to climb a set of narrow stairs to a second floor where there was a bathroom and a bedroom. She became aware that an unknown person was following her, but she did not turn around to see who it was. That unknown person pushed her through the doorway into the darkened bedroom. She still made no effort to determine who it was.
