Support for Bobby Cox - SC House District 21
- By Dianne Mitchell - Greenville, SC
It is primary time for voters and no matter which party you support, it means that people with whom you largely agree are running against one another. Making a choice between them is more difficult and it can get personal if you are acquainted with them. But the comparison must be done so may the best candidate win and no hard feelings, please.
The race I would like to discuss is for State House District 21 currently held by Phyllis Henderson. Phyllis has spent time on education and the opioid epidemic. These are important issues and her work has made some progress for improvement. But is it enough? I think not. This work can be continued by someone else who more closely aligns with the voters in District 21.

Transparency
- By Frank Hall - Greenville, SC
I didn’t actually see this happen. It took place several months or years before I got there, but the students and faculty were still talking about it. A boy named Bobby walked into Professor Candy’s Psychology class shortly after it began that day. “Ah, there you are! I thought I could find you here,” he shouted. “You gave me an ‘F’ on my term paper! Well, revenge is so sweet! You will never give me another ‘F.’” Bobby pulled out a gun and shot Professor Candy twice. Meantime the professor had reached into a drawer of his desk and pulled out a gun and shot Bobby three times. Both men collapsed and sprawled on the floor. Five men opened the door and came in. Four of them carried off the bodies. The fifth was one of the other Psychology professors, and he took over the class. Up to this point in time the stunned students did not know that both guns were loaded with blanks. It was all a theatrical performance.

Texit Will Follow Brexit
- By Winston McCuen - Ware Shoals, SC
Great Britain has seceded from the European Union and the world is different now. The British people have voted for freedom, independence and national identity. Tax-paying Brits have thrown off the yoke of Third-World tax consumers. By using secession to free their country from socialistic tyranny, the Brits have reversed the world-wide trend toward globalism and political centralization.

The Case for Secession
- By Kearney Smith - Green Mountain, NC
Please suppress the alarm you are likely to feel when you hear someone saying that a State or States should be allowed to secede from the United States. That alarm you may feel is a conditioned reflex which was carefully nurtured over several generations by the advocates of a strong central government.
Before 1860 most Americans would not have felt that instant, automatic alarm or revulsion at hearing the word secession. In those days some of the most patriotic Americans not only heard and entertained the term with a tranquil feeling but also considered it the solution of choice if the central government tried to exercise powers not specifically given to it by the Constitution. Of course, there were people still living in 1860 whose fathers and uncles had taken up arms against the British military for the very purpose of seceding from Britain.

Citadel President Is Staying Put
- By Vivian Bradburn - Union, SC
I applaud the Citadel President's decision to stay put amid the hullabaloo over a photo of cadets with pillowcases over their heads. Christmas skit? Racism? Well of course it was racism, because civil rights activists wouldn't have it any other way.
The students involved have been ousted, but that's not enough. Oh no! There's a Confederate flag in the school's chapel. Down with it! When do these demands stop? Not until governments, schools and businesses stop lying down and rolling over for every imagined insult.
