The ancient Romans were a pretty smart bunch, until they started worshipping big government. One of my favorite ancient Roman writers is Marcus Tullius Cicero (106 B.C.--43 B.C.). A noted lawyer and unfailing defender of the dying Roman Republic, he was a keen observer of the decline leading to the ultimate death of that Republic, and was eventually killed by the Roman version of total government in the form of the legions of Marc Antony. Before Cicero chose the wrong dictator to serve, he wrote these famous words: “Patria est communis omnium parens”, which means—“The fatherland is the common parent of us all”. I’m sure that most of us would agree with this sentiment, but just what is our “fatherland”?

LIVING AMONG THE “RUINS”

Alongside the road to Beaufort, S.C., near Yemassee, stand the still imposing ruins of Old Sheldon Church. Originally built between 1745 and 1753, it was used by American patriots during our Revolutionary War to store arms; hence it was burned down by the British in 1779, and rebuilt in 1826. Tradition has claimed that it was again burned and gutted by the marauding devils from General Sherman’s army of pillagers and despoilers during The War For Southern Independence, but fairly recent evidence in a letter from an on site visitor in 1866 claims that Old Sheldon was NOT burned down in 1865 by Yankees but was gutted by the locals after that war, and its materials used all over Beaufort, S.C.

Are You Concerned Over Our Current “Dilemma”? – Part 2

Last time we concluded that our current “dilemma” (at least one of them) is the decision that each of us makes as to whether or not to allow ourselves to be vaccinated with one of the Covid-19 vaccines which have been swiftly brought into use. It isn’t necessarily whether or not the current batch of Covid-19 vaccines may or may not have long term effects which are difficult, if not impossible, to predict at this point in time. From what I’ve read, the current C-19 vaccines may be effective indefinitely, OR might only have a useful anti-body producing life measured in months, rather than years or decades, as are most vaccines. There are differences of opinion on this matter, even among the scientists who are working on them. I, for one, will resist being vaccinated with one of these semi-experimental vaccines to the best of my ability for as long as possible.

Are You Concerned Over Our Current “Dilemma”? – Part 1

What dilemma is that, you may ask? Well, it’s the one hanging over all of our heads, like a sinister “Sword of Damocles” ready to release its stroke upon the mostly unsuspecting, totally undereducated, and overly-trusting American people. We are now faced with a dilemma that few Americans living today have ever experienced. It appears that the globalists of the world—and particularly the treasonous “deep staters” here in the U.S.—are increasingly “recommending”, and not-so-subtly beginning to demand—that almost the ENTIRE WORLD, and especially all of the American people, must be VACCINATED to “protect them” against the Chinese Covid-19 virus. The “dilemma”, of course, is the decision that each of us must make as to whether or not to allow ourselves to be vaccinated with these rapidly developed and barely past “experimental” vaccines. Put me in the “REFUSE” column.

“Tolerance is the last virtue of a depraved society”!
(Rev. D. James Kennedy (1930-2007), late President of Coral Ridge Ministries, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.)
During his life and ministry, Dennis James Kennedy was one of my “heroes of the faith”. Thirteen years after his death in 2007, he still is one of my greatest faith heroes. Once, he said: “When you have an immoral society that has blatantly, proudly, violated all of the Commandments of God, there is one last virtue they insist upon: Tolerance for their immorality.” Truer words have seldom been spoken, because this sick and warped “tolerance” for immorality and hatred of Christianity and real Christians has been infecting our national culture with increasing ferocity over recent decades and, in fact, this hatred has been in the forefront of the plans pushed by those who have proclaimed allegiance to their leftist/progressive/socialist dogma at least since the late 18th century.

One Nation Under God? - Part 2

Last time we opened this discussion with arguments on the premise that the U.S.A. was originally founded as a Christian (or at least a Christian-oriented) nation, and I used a series of historic “proofs” for that contention as presented by Dr. David Gibbs, Jr., President of The Christian Law Association, in his book, One Nation Under God. I refer you to last’s week’s Part 1 of this article for a review of Dr. Gibb’s points, that indeed America was founded as at least a Christian oriented nation, and that most of her Founders were historic Christians and were NOT “DEISTS”, as proposed by many of the modern left wing brain damaged enemies of God and Country that infest our nation, with their progressive and unconstitutional agendas of violence and the long-sought Marxist overthrow of our historic Constitutional Republic—agendas which will surely be pushed with increased vigor now that the Klan of New Bolsheviks—and its two soon-to-be-anointed “leaders”—Comrades Sleazy Joe and Kommie-La—has supposedly won a “fair” election, protests to the contrary by President Trump and his supporters, notwithstanding.

One Nation Under God? Part 1

“There is no doubt that this is a nation which was built upon the Christian faith—that the Lord, indeed, was the God of this nation, that it was founded upon the principles of God’s Word, upon the teachings of Christianity, and for the advancement of the Kingdom of Christ. All these things are well documented, in the charters of the original colonies, in the original compacts (like the famous Mayflower Compact), covenants, and constitutions. When the Supreme Court looked into the matter in 1892, poring over all the original documents, they concluded with one unanimous, unambiguous voice: ‘This is a Christian nation.’” (REV. D. JAMES KENNEDY)

Why Shouldn’t We Despise And Defund Them, As The Enemies Of Our Constitutional Republic Desire?

58 years ago, in 1963, Americans began to hear the first beginnings of the clarion call that has become a crescendo of common sense and needful action: “SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL POLICE, AND KEEP THEM INDEPENDENT”! The man responsible for formulating this concept in the long list of freedom-preserving “actions” was the late patriot, Robert Welch, Founder in 1958 of one of the oldest and most effective organizations dedicated to the proposition that the Constitutional Liberties and Safeguards formulated by our Founding Generation were not up for grabs and were not to be negotiated away upon the altar of “world government”-- THE JOHN BIRCH SOCIETY.

Pray For A “Happy Christmas”

A “happy Christmas?” What happened to “Merry Christmas”? Back in the halcyon days of our cultural innocence and our racial/gender/transgender/non-mulicultural/age/class/political/religious/ educational “insensitivities”, Americans thought nothing of wishing their friends and family—even perfect strangers-- a “Merry Christmas”. I still do so, and I refuse to capitulate to the smarmy progressive “moonbats” and their brain damaged, guano-producing flock in our midst who consider me to be hopelessly old fashioned, culturally elitist, set in my ways, and unwilling to change. To those accusations I proudly and without apology plead “guilty”. Period—end of discussion! (But not the end of the article!)

Old Ebenezer Scrooge would have loved the ACLU (‘Anti-Christian Liberties Union’) in his really bad days when he was the “Grinch” who hated Christmas. At this time of year, especially, the ACLU is burning the midnight oil in its unceasing struggle to protect us from reminders of just Who is “the reason for the season”. Columnist Cal Thomas once quipped, “The ACLU and other groups are performing their annual ritual of keeping the public square (including the ‘public’ schools) clean of any mention of Jesus Christ, unless that mention is intended as a curse word. In such a case, the ACLU will leap to the defense.”

What Do We Really Know About Freedom? – Part 2

Back in 1899, at the start of the Boer War (in South Africa), in an essay titled, “The Old Issue”, Rudyard Kipling wrote, “All we have of freedom—all we use or know—this our fathers won for us, long and long ago”. At that time, the British Empire and its influence (for good or ill) extended over much of the world. British “freedom”—at least as defined by Parliament and the English Monarchy—prevailed over most of its polyglot peoples, with or without their approval.

What Do We Really Know About Freedom? - Part 1

God’s Word tells us, in Joel 1:3: “Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation.” This is still excellent advice for Americans today in regards to the topic of ‘freedom’, because if any group of people is in danger of losing the liberties bequeathed to them by their Fore Parents, it is the people of the U.S. It is US! The Founders of the United States were a pretty wise collection of men (aided and encouraged by a wise collection of their wives and mothers, I’m certain). By declaring “Independence” from Mother England they knew they would be considered as traitors to the King and would suffer the consequences should they be caught by the King’s men. Benjamin Franklin reminded his countrymen (and especially US) that, “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Franklin’s words are doubly true today.

Remembering the Pilgrims

“…And as one small candle may light a thousand, so the light here kindled hath shone forth unto many, yea in some sort to our whole Nation. Let the glorious name of Jehovah have all the praise.”
So wrote William Bradford, longtime Governor of the Pilgrims’ colony at Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1630, and one of the true giants of early American history. Unfortunately, most Americans, especially our youth, have never heard of William Bradford and know virtually nothing TRUTHFUL about our Pilgrim Forefathers and Mothers. Today, the Pilgrim story is lost amidst the typical American celebration of Thanksgiving—turkey, dressing, gravy, football, parades, and naps. Almost forgotten is the spiritual bravery, the courage, the sacrifices, the terror, the joys and sorrows that this brave little band experienced on their way to establishing not only a Christian colony in the frozen forests of Massachusetts, but ultimately the Country that most of us say we love—America.

It is sad that so much of true American history is being forgotten, consigned to the memory hole of left wing political correctness that infests what passes for public “education” in our country. A case in point is the true story of the “first Thanksgiving” (the one in Plymouth, Massachusetts, not the probable real “first” thanksgiving that was held in Jamestown, Virginia). The coming of the “Saints and Strangers”, or the people known to history as “the Pilgrims”, to the bleak shores of Massachusetts in December, 1620 should be as well known to our people—young and old—as is the story of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, but sadly Rudolph wins out every time.

I’ve been a member of the National Rifle Association for decades, and despite some recent “family bickering” within that group, I’ve always been proud to be a member. Founded by two Union Generals in 1871 to promote civilian marksmanship training and improvement (following the dismal record of shooting abilities by Northern soldiers during The War For Southern Independence), the NRA became, in the 1970’s, the nation’s foremost advocate of maintaining the INDIVIDUAL’S right to keep and bear arms, a Second Amendment Freedom which is usually attacked by liberals, firearms haters, freedom despising socialist “progressives” and Marxists, and mentally confused moonbats who love to parrot the left wing line that our Second Amendment is NOT an individual right, as are ALL other rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights, but applies only to the collective right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms as part of a State militia. Balderdash! I also belong to Gun Owners of America, an organization that many 2nd Amendment supporters believe is even more effective than the N.R.A. If those facts make me “persona non grata” in your mind, perhaps you need to vacuum out some of the inaccurate “trash” therein and begin reloading it with TRUTH!

Blessed Is The Nation …

Can you complete that Scriptural quote I began in the title to this article? Some who claim to be knowledgeable of God’s Word probably can’t. Some who don’t claim to be Christians, or who are “pagans”, probably can. Our world can be a strange place at times, and no more strange than in our application of God’s Holy Word to both our national affairs and our daily lives. So, let’s begin by completing the quote from the title to this article, found in PSALM 33:12:
“Blessed is that nation, whose God is the Lord, even the people that he hath chosen for His inheritance.” - 1599 Geneva Bible
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.” - 1611 King James Bible
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He chose for His inheritance.” - New International Version Bible

A native of Cleveland, Ohio W. H. (Bill) Lamb was graduated from Cleveland State University (Ohio) in 1960, and relocated to South Carolina in 1964. For many years he was an Industrial Engineer, Chief Industrial Engineer, and plant manager in the steel, electronics, and apparel industries in Ohio, South Carolina, and Alabama.
An avid and long time writer concentrating on political and cultural issues of concern to America’s Christian Patriot community, he was published in the Lancaster, S.C. “News” during the mid-to-late 1960’s and in Greenville’s “The Times Examiner” since 1999. The late Christian Patriot, Col. Bobby Dill, was his first editor for The Times Examiner, the publication he always refers to as “a great journal of truth”.
Married to Barbara for 65 years, he has two adult kids, five grandkids, and six great grandkids, plus a “feisty and opinionated” 80 lb. Pit Lab named Hayley, who runs the entire house.
A long time member, with Barbara, of the patriotic John Birch Society, he believes that it is the duty of ALL Christians to first, share the love of his Savior, Jesus, with others, and then to be dedicated patriots and do everything possible to both resist the evil of collectivism that is smothering Western Civilization and educate and motivate his fellow Americans in the preservation of our unique Constitutional Republic.
