“In the summer of 1941, months before America was drawn into WW11…, a small group of American military pilots was secretly being recruited to augment China’s Air Force.  At the head of this effort was a crusty, retired WW1 Army Air Corps fighter pilot (the partially deaf Claire Chennault) who had been hired by China to strengthen the Chinese Air Force.  Because America was not at war with Japan, great care was taken to avoid bringing into question this nation’s neutrality.  As a result, these volunteer pilots were required to resign their commissions with the U.S. military, travel to China as civilians and enlist in the Chinese Air Force.  These roughly 100 pilots and 200 support crew were … known as “The First American Volunteer Group” or AVG.  After their first combat on Dec. 18, 1941, where they were highly outnumbered and very successful, a journalist wrote in his column, ‘They flew like tigers….’  From that time on, they became known as ‘The Flying Tigers’. (With a tiger shark’s mouth & teeth painted on the front of their Curtiss P-40 Warhawks.)  The Flying Tigers were disbanded and replaced by the U.S. military 7 months later on July 4, 1942, but during (those 7 months), they racked up one of the finest air combat records in history.”  (Quoted from Flying Tiger pilot R.T. I don’t present myself as a Biblical scholar. But I do study God’s Holy and truthful Word quite often for my own betterment, and particularly when preparing articles for this great digital newspaper, The Times Examiner.  One of the parts of His Word that I am confused about is the first seven verses of Romans 13.  I find it perplexing when trying to equate what my pastors over the years have told me that it meant, versus what I’ve been convinced it really means, based on the teaching of other pastors.

Would we, or could we—be willing to martyr ourselves for our beliefs?  For our religious or political principles that we hold sacred and/or inviolable?  Ah, that is a question to ponder, isn’t it?  The definition of “martyr” is:  One who willingly endures extreme persecution, suffering, torment or death for a religious or a firm political belief.  Obviously, history tells us of untold numbers of men and women who have done just that—who have stood firm for God or Country (or both)—who wrapped themselves in “the full armor of God”, or in their own definitions of “political principles”, or perhaps in the flag of the country that they lived and died for, and who withstood the worst that the enemies of God and man, or their own personal enemies,  could inflict upon them, even unto death!  So once again I ask:  Would we be willing to do likewise?  Could we—you and I-- allow ourselves to be martyred?  Would that the answer was that simple.

Let me begin by proclaiming my absolute and perpetual allegiance to the right to free speech, to unpopular speech, to all forms and terms of speech that are considered “offensive”, and ESPECIALLY “political” or “religious” speech that is hated, prohibited, disdained, or ridiculed by mental midgets or brain-damaged liberals—or the constitution-hating left wingers that infest the progressive, leftist, liberal sewers of academia, the so-called “main stream media”, the anti-American, anti-free speech, anti-conservative “information technology” giants of Silicon Valley, (i.e. Facebook, UTube, Twitter, Instagram), the anti-Christian, pro-terrorism Satanic dupes known as Allah’s 7^th Century Primitives, the “gender confused”, the unborn baby murderers of Planned Parenthood, the drug-filled halls of the treasonous political party known as the Klan of New Bolsheviks (formerly Democrats), and the phony RINO “Republicans” who pretend to be supporters of our U.S. Constitution while they ignore it or subvert it at every opportunity—i.e. speech as protected by the U.S. Constitution and by the hard-won liberties enshrined in perpetuity in our historic Western Civilization.

“Conspiracies have played a significant role in mankind’s past, present, and probably the future.” - Bliss Tew

(I apologize in advance for the length of this article.  As you “plow” through it, perhaps you can begin to understand why there is so much to say about this subject, so please stick with me to the end.)

Last time we examined seven historical conspiracies, or “plots”, that did change history, or could have had they not been detected before they came to fruition.  To further reinforce my argument that there have always been “conspiracies” among mankind, probably since shortly after Adam and Eve were driven out of The Garden, I’d like to review several more for  your appraisal, further reinforcing my arguments.  Always remember those three common elements necessary for some human activity to qualify as a “conspiracy”:  It must be engaged in by two or more people, it must be kept secret from all but the most dedicated conspirators, and it must be for evil or unlawful purposes.

I assume that most of us are aware of the concept of “conspiracies” throughout world history, and we’ve probably heard that term used for much of our lives.  Even today we hear the ridicule of political conspiracies, often from popular but  ill-informed “talking head pundits” all over the political spectrum who love to attack and disparage “conspiracy theorists” (people who are convinced that there are genuine conspiracies among us at this very time, based on evidence they feel is compelling). The more politically astute and educated among us like to discuss the pros and cons regarding whether “conspiracies”—political or otherwise-- have existed in the past or exist now, and what has been the affect upon history of such activities.  I suggest that the first order of investigation into “conspiracies” is to define the word:

President Harry Truman, crusty old Democrat that he was, said the following while he was POTUS:  “This is a Christian nation.  In this great country of ours has been demonstrated the fundamental unity of Christianity and democracy.”  He was correct in the first part, and misleading at the end, since I’m certain that he knew that the U.S. was established as a Constitutional Republic, and purposely NOT as a “democracy”, which our wise Founders, from their Biblical knowledge and their study of history,  regarded as one of the WORST forms of government, and they were correct about that.  (Using the word “democracy” in any way to describe our REPUBLIC is semantically misleading at best, labels one as a mal-educated person, and is semantically incorrect, especially when used by those who should know better, or even worse—by those who have subversive and anti-constitutional republic agendas as their goal!)

“I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; A Star shall come out of Jacob; a Scepter shall rise out of Israel…”  (Numbers 24:17).  Considering that the Holy Spirit inspired Moses to write The Book of Numbers around 1500 years before our Lord Jesus was born among mankind, it’s obvious to us alive today who the “Star” that was to come out of Jacob was ---  and the identity of the “Scepter” that would rise out of Israel.  But to the descendants of Abraham, the people who would become known to history as  “Jews”, as they wandered in the wilderness for around 40 years before God allowed them into what is today called “the Holy Land”, it may not have been so clear.  To some “doubting Thomas’s” of this age, it’s still not clear!

Last time we explored some possibilities as to whether or not our troubled country, the U.S.A., was originally established as a Christian-oriented nation by people who were mostly Christians.  One thing is certain when delving into our history:  The Constitutional Republic known as the United States of America was deliberately NOT established as a “Theocracy”  and in fact, our Founders were aghast at the notion of such a form of government (as I would have been).  Nor was it founded as a “Democracy”, which our Founders, in their wisdom, recognized as one of the WORST forms of government.  Many of our modern-day politicians, feeble-brained Dumbocrats and RINOS that they are, seem to always forget this fact (or ignore it ON PURPOSE)!  I trust that you, my readers, know the vital differences between a “republic” and a “democracy”, and WHY we should keep it that way!  (For a thorough explanation of that subject, log on to timesexaminer.com—LOCAL COLUMNISTS, and then on my name, for a list of my archived articles, an then on the title: “This is a constitutional republic, not a democracy.  Let’s keep it that way!”, published on March 25, 2019

HERITAGE.  What exactly does the word mean, and what does it imply?  Dictionary.com defines “heritage” as follows”

• Something that is handed down from the past, as a tradition: e.g. “a national heritage of honor, pride, and courage”;
• Something that comes or belongs to one by reason of birth; an inherited lot or portion; e.g. “a heritage of poverty and suffering”;
• Something reserved for one; e.g. “the heritage of the righteous”;
• In Law: Something that has been or may be inherited by legal descent or succession.

Those definitions seem fairly straightforward.  So why is it that when people of seeming intelligence and good will discuss whether or not the United States of America was founded as a “Christian Oriented Nation”, and more pointedly, were most of our Founding Fathers “Christians”, a great cloud comes over their minds, and the darkness of false teachings, closed-mindedness, and deliberate mendacity begins to reign supreme?

“And he said, Hearken ye all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou, King Jehoshaphat:  Thus saith the Lord unto you, Fear you not, neither be afraid for this great multitude:  FOR THE BATTLE IS NOT YOURS, BUT GOD’S”  (2^nd Chronicles 20:15-17; 1599 Geneva Bible).

For those of you who are unaware, the 1599 Geneva Bible was the Bible used by our PILGRIM Forefathers and mothers (they didn’t trust the King James Version because they disliked King James and his allegiance to The Church of England, with its “anti-Calvinist” inclinations).  I’m sure it was often read and preached from during the dangerous and tedious 66-day Atlantic voyage from England to the New World during the harsh fall and winter of 1620.  Fierce storms and huge waves and horrible living conditions below decks would have turned most modern people back from whence they came.  Not so for these 104 stalwart souls who had determined to separate from their old world and, at least some of them trusting in God’s guidance, build a new and religiously separate colony on the barren coast of North America.

“We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing; He chastens and hastens His will to make known.

So from the beginning the fight we were winning; thou, Lord, wast at our side, all glory be Thine.

Let Thy congregation escape tribulation; Thy name be ever praised, O Lord, make us free!”

Who in the Christian world doesn’t recognize that great old Thanksgiving hymn?  The words and music are from The Netherlands of the 16^th century, and it was arranged in its present form by Edward Kremser (1838-1914).  Since the hymn originated in the same country (Holland, or The Netherlands) that our Separatist Pilgrim Forefathers and Mothers lived in as exiles from England from 1608 to 1620 (and for many of those same Separatists much longer than that), I’m sure that our “Plimoth” Pilgrims may have sung that song, or at least a version of it, very often during their 12 year sojourn in Holland, to which they had fled to escape the extreme persecution inflicted upon them by the despised and feared King James and by the harsh hierarchy of The Church of England.  (On the other hand, the Separatist Pilgrims sang mostly from the Psalms, so whether or not they ever sang this old hymn I can’t say with certainty.)

(Note:  I don’t pretend to be an authority on Pilgrim History, but I am quite knowledgeable about it, because my wife. who is descended from at least three Mayflower passengers,  is a life-long member of the National/State Society of Mayflower Descendants, and we’ve attended many Mayflower Society meetings together over the years. In the early 1990’s I presented the program for  the Fall meeting of the S.C. Society of Mayflower Descendants.  This and the following two articles will center on these amazing people who, in obeying what they believed were the teachings of their Savior, Jesus the Messiah, changed history!)
