Virginia Homeschool Convention Celebrates 40 Years

RICHMOND, Va. -- Thousands will gather in Richmond to celebrate the 40th Annual Virginia Homeschool Convention. Keynotes Kirk Cameron, S.D. Smith, and Daniel Craig head a speaker line-up of 30+ speakers covering 150+ workshop topics, including getting started, homeschooling high school, transitioning from public school, entrepreneurship, cultural relevance, working and homeschooling, homeschool vision, practical how-tos, and more.
Happening June 8, 9, and 10 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, the Virginia Homeschool Convention is hosted by Home Educators Association of Virginia.
BJU Board of Trustees Appoints Acting CEO

The Bob Jones University Board of Trustees today appointed Dr. Alan Benson acting CEO, effective May 17, 2023.
Benson joined the University leadership in 2018 and has been serving as executive vice president for student development and ministry advancement. He earned a BA in Bible (1992) and a MMin (2009) from BJU, a MDiv from Louisiana Baptist Theological Seminary in 2011 and a DMin in Expository Preaching from BJU Seminary (2020). Before coming to BJU, he served in senior pastoral ministry for 25 years in Florida, North Carolina and Illinois. At BJU, he has made significant contributions to student leadership development and the total BJU student experience, and he has expanded the offerings of BJU Seminary.
NGU's National Championship Baseball Team Recognized at State Capitol

North Greenville University’s (NGU) 2022 NCAA Division II National Championship baseball team was recognized on the floor of the South Carolina House of Representatives in Columbia on April 27.
District 17 Representative Mike Burns welcomed the team to the historic State Capitol, recalling a run that ended in the program’s first national title.
“You’ve got to understand, there’s over 300 members in NCAA Division II,” Burns said.
Richey Encourages Perseverance During NGU’s 2023 Spring Commencement

Encouraged to make a difference by using their gifts and talents to glorify God, 281 North Greenville University students had their degrees conferred during Spring Commencement ceremonies Friday evening at Younts Stadium in Tigerville.
“The only chance we have to give a glimpse of glory to God on this earth is to do something through Him that causes people to ask ‘why?’” said Furman Men’s Basketball Coach Bob Richey, a 2006 summa cum laude graduate of NGU, who delivered the university’s Commencement address.
“If you play it safe, you’ll never get there. This world needs people with conviction. We need courage. We need believers. We’re equipped to go make a difference because of the gifts God has given us, and He’s begging us to use them,” he said.
One Night Event Brings Students Together

One Night Rock Hill, a worship experience for teenagers hosted by the South Carolina Baptist Convention, brought more than 1,000 students and adults together to engage with the hope of the Gospel. The event, hosted by First Baptist Rock Hill, saw over 100 decisions for Christ and over 40 students called to ministry.
North American Mission Board (NAMB) Next Gen Director Shane Pruitt was the keynote speaker for the event. The North Greenville University (NGU) Campus Band led in worship.
2023 Vintage Dedicated to Betty Solomon

The Bob Jones University yearbook staff dedicated the 2023 Vintage to Betty Solomon, a devoted faculty member for over forty-four years in the School of Fine Arts and Communication. Currently, she serves as an associate professor of Journalism and Mass Communication, academic advisor and faculty advisor to The Collegian.
Raised in Virginia, Solomon enrolled in Bob Jones University, graduating with a BS degree in 1978. As an undergraduate, she achieved exceptional academic status, graduating magna cum laude. In 1980, she earned an MEd from BJU, followed in 1993 by a MA from the University of South Carolina’s College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
BJU to Hold 96th Commencement

Over 700 students in the Class of 2023 will receive degrees at the 96th annual commencement of Bob Jones University Friday, May 5. The two-hour program begins at 2 p.m. in BJU’s Founder’s Memorial Amphitorium (FMA). The service will be webcast live.
“We are proud of our graduating class. Commencement is a time to recognize their achievements and reflect on God’s goodness and provision for them throughout their educational journey,” said BJU President Steve Pettit. “We look forward with anticipation to how He will direct their next steps.”
